What did you do to your Blackwing today?

It's always a concern to me if they use the right oil. Two times ago, there was some confusion about the "right oil". The service guy came out later and apologized and said he's new and not overly familiar with Blackwings. Last time we were good. No issues, no questions.

I always Google the correct part number before I go (as GM changes P/N's often) and double check before I leave. I figure if the P/N is right, it's on them if something happens. I like to ass-u-me the tech uses the right stuff. I mean, what's he care? He gets paid either way. I even thought about going to the local Chevy store to see if they have a "Corvette" guy and if they'd change it.

You can always ask them to hold onto the empty quart bottles to show you when you pick up the vehicle. Add it as a special request when you drop off the vehicle for service. I don't know they'll honor the request but can't hurt to ask.

When we were at the Cadillac hospitality tent at the Detroit Indy race a few years ago, the folks were there from Mobile 1 to do a tech talk. The manager of the group openly told everyone that they should ask to see the quart of oil before it goes into the car, like a fine bottle of wine. He said that the dealership that he used was sour about it at first, but got over it. It was interesting to hear the actual Mobile 1 guy say that this was necessary (sort of vindication of OCD).

Nonetheless, I did as told during the first oil change at the dealership. To hedge my bet, I asked the scheduler to note that I was going to do so when I made the appointment. Lo and behold, they brought out the quart of the Euro version. After reviewing the owners manual (pg 300 “…DexosR…”), they had to order the correct stuff in from another dealership. Afterwards, my receipt had the correct p/n listed on it.

I normally do my own oil changes and send outgoing oil samples in for documentation and to monitor engine health. It may be a bit overboard but after hearing warranty horror stories with Stellantis I started using this method.

The reason why my BW5 is and will remain in storage until spring.

Got a beater because the BW is undriveable in these winter conditions + wayyy too much salt on the ground.
Ugh I need to do this... I had an AT4 for the last 4 years with ZERO snow in my area.. I trade the truck in back in November and now it snows every F'N week here somehow

Haha this is my first winter back on the east coast after living in CA for a while so completely unprepared for this. I don’t even own ice scraper or shovel.

I also grew up around here and have no recollection of it being so cold for so long after a snow storm. It usually melts the next day so I got the BW with that in mind but… yeah..

I got this 2007 Subaru and just been flooring it into spots that aren’t plowed up here handling it like a champ. Basically saved me from being stuck at home

Brilliant idea.. what did you pay for the Subaru if you don't mind me asking. Definitely interested in a beater

If you put M&S tires on it, you'll be practically unstoppable. I had a 2005 & then 2008 Subbie STi with dedicated snow tires for the winter. The Tri-State Subbie Owners Enthusiast's Club used to do a weekend event every winter from NYC thru PA, a stop at Subbie of America, NJ & all the way to Buffalo, NY & back. We even went thru back "roads" that were designed only for snow mobiles during the winter (accessible dirt/gravel roads the rest of the year) in the Pine Barrens of NJ. I never got stuck & it was SO. MUCH. FUN. driving around like I was in a rally the whole time. Even those without M&S tires did well but some did get stuck now & then & needed a pull out of some snow bank.

Like $3500 for a 121k mile one off of Facebook marketplace. I was really looking for ANY vehicle with ok maintenance records (it’s a sub $5k vehicle can’t expect much) but the Subaru AWD is actually quite capable so I guess I got lucky.

I actually ended up liking the subbie and put some Yokohama Geolandar AT4s on it trying to fix it up a bit and it crawls out of the tough stuff like an animal clinging on to life. It cracks me up. My previous truck had lockers so the off road stuff was very controlled and deliberate, with this it’s just like “yeah just floor it it’ll hook up eventually”

I live right next to the Pine Barrens and still remember digging out my buddy's Jeep there at a bonfire during high school in the late 80's! ... And remember when they built the S o A over the old site of the Latin Casino (later short lived Emerald City). Cost to 10 years ago, S o A moved out of Cherry Hill and into Camden.

Just make sure to keep up on the maintenance of the diffs & tranny fluid. The weak link is the engine with forced induction but they are very reliable otherwise.

I moved back to Ohio in November after several years of living in Florida. I installed all season tires a couple of weeks later, LOL.

The car has not moved in two weeks, and won't move again until the 17 inches of snow we got last Sunday is gone.
