Winter Wheels and Tires

So the winter setup will be squared. I assume this is better for winter traction. Any downside compared to stock staggered setup?
They are very very good in the winter. Put the power down surprisingly well in the dry. I have a set of wheels with these tires for sale. I couldn’t even tell much of a difference in width from the back and I’m picky about these things.

I put my winters on over the weekend, having mostly copied Nofar's setup (same Forged One Competition FF05 wheels in 18x9.5 +20mm front, 18x9.5 +33mm rear, but with 255/35R-18 Michelin Pilot Alpin tires on all four corners).

I have 100 miles on this setup already with no issues. The included TPMS and lugs worked perfectly, and everything fit fine with no rubbing. However, I do agree with Tire Rack that this is an "aggressive" fitment. The offsets of these wheels bring them about even with the fender, which is to my taste, but might not be for everyone. There's also very little clearance for going with a larger tire before you start rubbing the suspension, so definitely be careful if you want to try a different tire size.

I've attached a few pictures that show the tight suspension clearance, as well as the offset difference when I had one side of the car done. Also, the jack points on this car are a real pain compared to what I'm used to.

If anyone is in MI and needs a cheap set of used winter tires for their 4BW, I put a thread up in the for sale section. I'll probably hang onto them for another month and a half then recycle them.
Greetings strohw - you don't happen to still have these tires available by chance? I would be interested...thanks

I was actually fortunate to purchase a set of stock wheels and paired the with a set of Pirelli sottozeros 3s 255/40/19 up front and 295/35/19 in the back with no issues. the fronts look a little stretched but no back actually fills up the wheel well.

Looks great (we literally have twin cars now!)! Glad I could help.

Hey fellas and shielas,

Update from my last mega post.

TSW Imatras came in after 2 weeks ordering from Tire Rack. Kept it exact as OEM at 18x9.5 in the rear and 18x9 on the front.

I got a set of OEM sensors from eBay for a great price.

Here is how my setup looks on Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4. 265/35R18 at the rear and 255/35R18 at the front.

Only done 100 miles but I like the setup so far.

Yes sir. Runs great but I want the beefier look so may go to 325. Might even do it for the summer rubber.

285/35/19 is rear and 275/30/19 front fits our wheels
Anybody have info on the accuracy of the stock speedometer?
I’ve recently put exactly these size winters on my CT5 BW (Michelin Pilot Alpins) and the difference between the Waze indicated speed and the speedometer is greater than it should be according to online tire size calculators.
What’s even more puzzling is that the variation isn’t directly proportional to the change in speed (e.g., the variation at 150 km/h is not 1.5 times the variance at 100).

Got my Alpine Winter tires installed today...they ride great...for normal street & highway driving can't tell them from the summer PS4 except for slightly noisier...

Where did you get them? I have been searching all over for the rears along with Discount Tire and Fitment Industries with no luck…

My (somewhat) local tire shop that I've been using for perhaps 30+ years tracked them down once I got the Micheline stock number from folks here. Unfortunately, according to my shop, there are no 275 s available and after the 2 I got (that came from different places) they say there is only 1 of the 265s left in the US. Sorry. However I think 255s should be available and you could do a square setup.

I ended up getting some Apex VS-5RS wheels during the winter sale. 19x10 et20 and 19x11 et44 per their recommended sizes. I wanted to go with stock sizes and swap my summer PS4S over to them an put winter tires on my stock rims. Eventually just decided to put winter tires on the Apex wheels for ease of mounting loose wheels and then ceramic coating them. Eventually won’t be driving in winter and will run these with the stock PS4S tires. For the tires, I went with Vredestein Wintrac Pros in 275x35 R19 all around. Nobody makes a winter to match up with stock sizes in the rear and eventually just said, “the hell with it, they should work well enough”. Local tire shop said no problem on putting them on 11” wheels, and they did a fine job. They are stretched a bit, but not horrible and again, shouldn’t be a forever situation.
