How do you like the C8 as a replacement for the 4BW -- Is it a step up in driver engagement?

The C8 Stingray is a great car but is more of a step down in driving engagement compared to a Blackwing with a M6. I drove one on track and it handles great as a mid-engine sport car should but is much too refined and numb compared to previous Corvettes. The C8 Z06 fixes this with a more exciting engine and exhaust note but still needs a manual to be "engaging".

I traded a GLA545 for the 4bw. Not much different from the CLA, and I agree with much of the OP's list. I was constantly reminded that the G/C are Mercedes entry level cars, and don't convey the quality of the next steps up. It was a fun little hotrod, especially with some minor tweaking, but not up to the BW in most respects. The BW is clearly several steps up, even with limited options.

Yup. Mercedes can't build a $95k car with a solid interior. It was embarrassing at times.
