V-Series Cadillac(s)?
2023 CT5 Blackwing
Hey Guys, been a lurker here for a long time.
Finally decided to join under unfortunate circumstances.
My 23’ CT5BW is another victim of engine failure with only 16,000 miles. This forum seems to be great resource full of useful insight.
Thank You all, proud to me among you

Welcom to my world. The engine in my 22 CT5 BW came apart at about 7500 miles. Sewell Cadillac of Dallas could not have been more helpful. Picked up my car, left me a loaner,,returned my car with a new engine 10 days later. No further problems. I trust your car is still under warranty. File under “Sometimes bad things happen to good people”

Welcome! Sorry to hear about the engine issues. What failed?
They tell me its a bent valve with metal chips in the oil. Im fairly competent when it comes to engine design and I think the bent valve must be a symptom of a larger issue and the metal flake in the oil is likely cam lobe material.

Yea thankfully it is still under warranty but
I have to say the entire process has been more than disappointing.
You purchase a $100k car and you would expect that you can get a decent loaner vehicle. My car has been at the dealership 2 weeks and 2 days as of this post and after many calls with messages left & calls not returned I finally called yesterday and got to speak to someone and was told that my car has a bent valve and metal flake in the oil. They are waiting to hear back from gm on if they are going to repair the engine or replace it. In my view an engine repair is unacceptable given that the oil is contaminated with metal particles but that is a battle for another day.
More than 2 weeksout of commission and the dealer says im #6 in line for a loaner vehicle as they don’t have any available. I have a case open with Cadillac customer care and they say I can rent my own vehicle and pay out of pocket and then they will reimburse me $47/day…. I don’t know what kind of rental vehicles you can get in other parts of the country for $47/ day but in Connecticut you getting a Hyundai or a Kia. Don’t get me wrong, im not expecting a Blackwing rental but something half way decent would be nice. My sister has a Volkswagen SUV and she gets a loaner every time her vehicle is in for service short term or long term. I hardly consider VW a luxury brand but apparently the German manufacturers know how to take care of their customers. I hope things improve throughout this process but they haven’t started out or a real positive note.

Disappointing indeed. My dealer, Sewell Cadillac of Dallas has a record of excellent customer service. Your dealer is severely lacking in the Customer Service department. Law suit? TV station Consumer Reporter visit? Sounds like it is time for “no more Mr. Nice Guy.”

Im also wondering if anyone that has had their engine replaced is concerned about diminished value. Everything is on carfax these days and I would definitely give pause before purchasing a car with an engine replacement. Yes, you might say your resetting the clock when you get a new engine but I can see two real concerns…
First, These are “numbered” cars and I have intentionally kept the mileage low with hopes that the car would someday be worth something as a collectors item. As most of us have seen at pretty much any collectors auctions cars without matching numbers (ie replacement motor) aren’t worth nearly as much as an all original.
Secondly, any potential buyer would be concerned about the replacement engine installation process. It factory when these things are assembled the line works as a well oiled machine (for the most part) and things are installed in sequence and accounted for. In a situation where the engine is being replaced at the dealership one can only hope that you have a competent and experienced tech installing your new engine correctly and the same way it was installed at the factory with no stripped nuts/bolts, spliced wires, correctly torque motor mounts, bell housing etc. there are tons of variables.
Are these valid concerns to anyone else?

First, unless you have something completely unique...
someday be worth something as a collectors item
...this is not going to happen with a Blackwing.

Secondly, this is valid trading any potential buyer very well may be...
concerned about the replacement engine installation process

But you forgot third and finally...
Most likely is that if this is truly the (only) issue and it's corrected with a new engine, then this car is going to drive amazingly! And in my humble opinion that is why you should buy one of these.
The longer/more miles you drive it:
1) The more you'll love it and leave this episode in your rear view
2) the less any future buyer will be concerned

(Not minimizing your ordeal. That truly sucks and would have me totally bent out of shape too, but as far as your questions...it's easier to be objective when I'm on the outside looking in)

Best of luck with your car and whatever you do

I appreciate all perspectives, thats why im here. Thank you for you input.
Don't get me wrong these hold their value really well and that may even increase further (look at the market for used Chevy SS sedans)...but that's still not the same as a 'collectors item'

Agreed, maybe “collectors item” was a poor choice of words but you seem to get my drift..
