Rear Diff Fluid

Where is this specified and how is anyone supposed to get it to that level? It sounds like others are overfilling it by filling it till it weeps out the top hole.

And how do you get an accurate fill level if you back up a 5BW onto ramps to do this procedure?
To change the transmission fluid, you would need to get whole car lifted. You would want to get it level.

You can suck out 8 ounces after it is full. This is related to the transmission:

Transmission fluid level MUST be 3.2 mm (1/8 inch)below (1) the transmission oil filler plug. This can be done by one of the following two methods:
  • Bend mechanics wire to 3.2 mm (1/8 inch) to check fluid level. Add or remove fluid as necessary.
  • Fill transmission until level with the bottom of the transmission oil filler plug hole, then remove 240 ml (8 ounces) of fluid.

Oh, so the 3.2mm below is for the transmission and not the ediff? So is the proper ediff level to be filled up to the plug?

Yes, I think there is some confusion in the thread. It looks like someone posted about the transmission at one point. The rear differential is standard, fill to the bottom of the hole. Manual transmission needs some expansion room, since it is basically using ATF.

Are you talking about the rear differential or the actual elsd?
I’m confused. Doesn’t the 5BW only have a eLSD? So there is only one thing to worry about back there with the specific Delco 10-4131 fluid. There isn’t anything else differential related to worry about correct?

I assume all the other differential capacities mentioned in the manual pages are for the other ct5 variations.
