It's funny how similar the civilian sector is to the military when it comes to dealing with people in decision making positions. It's like I never left lol.

I did just over 20 in the Navy as two (cross-rated from O to N to avoid IT, actually) of the CT flavors. Did Comms, then some 7th Fleet deployments, two NIOCs, a tour with JSOC, and retired out of NCIS.

Worked for a year at a local area establishment as an insider threat/security operations/digital forensic guy, then played with the remote gig stuff, and now I'm just done.

I'm a long time gamer/wargamer since my youth. I started playing D & D in 1974 and still play a version with my own custom rules and paint and use miniatures - occasionally with elaborate Dwarven Forge setups and related accessories. I actually briefly ran in a campaign run by Dave Arneson in 1977 at a worldcon.

I've also played magic and collected cards since the game came out. I have a complete or near complete set of every release up until about 2 years ago when I pretty much went cold turkey on purchasing new cards/sets. I also have tons of unopened product going back to "The Dark". Your probably the only one here who can appreciate the kind of collection I have. I've also got tons of promo stuff....like judges cards, convention cards and a great many of the early and more recent promos....including lots of oversized cards dating back to the early days....many of which I have framed and mounted on various walls of my house. I'd still be at it but I don't like the direction Hasbro has gone with the franchise and its just become too much for me.

I used to have a"store" but it wasn't really one....I just bought so much and knew folks in the industry where I had a store account with whole-sellers and occasionally would attend gaming conventions with my own booth and sell stuff. I still have unopened boxes of old Grenadier and Ral partha and many other miniatures...as well as armies of painted minis....such as nearly all of the Lord of the Rings stuff and have hosted many mass battles in the past (again using my own rules).

If I get back into buying cards or stuff again (which I might....but not like before) I'll look you up...

That certainly describes me with my wine cellar. I've long had this vision of my two boys perhaps surrounded by family and friends....long after I'm gone...clinking together glasses of (priceless fine) wine and saying "wasn't dad cool...leaving us all this great wine and not just money"

I retired after 40+ years in I/T not because I wanted to retire but because I just couldn't deal with the corporate b.s. any longer. My wife says that I am much nicer to her now and don't appear nearly as stressed. I'm also sleeping better now, and just generally feel better.

That lasted about a week. I have to keep busy, so I'm now working in retail car sales at a highline import dealership. This is something that I've always wanted to do, and I was surprised at the amount of training that I got (7 days) for sales, and how much training I've received on the lines that I sell (zero). Most of our traffic is pre-owned, so I have to fall back on my general knowledge, which can be difficult with car lines that I care nothing about (Kia, etc.).

It's interesting to see this business from the other side. It's also incredibly frustrating and a lot of hours just waiting around for something to happen.

I also write for a national car club magazine, and I've written some fiction (available on Amazon) with about the same result as Tuna got. I do have a royalty check coming in this month, but I suspect that it will be, as is typical, barely worth the bother to deposit it.
