And the power steering you could spin with no effort with one finger and look like a boss parallel parking.

You must not be old enough when everything American was V8. I still miss cars with front bench seats. Those were some great times.
Well I am actually. But when all my friends were into muscle cars - I was more into Fiats, Aphas, Triumphs, MGs and such. But not being so mechanically inclined my 2 seater ended up being a supercharged MR2 in 1989. I've certainly spent time in friend's GTOs, Javelins, Chargers and the like back in the day....but they were never the car for me.

Don't get me wrong....its not that I don't love the V8s and muscle cars (up to a point)...I'm just more of a zig zagger vs straight line speed....though not allergic to that either...

The 4 V BW is the first American car I've ever bought. By the time I was buying cars for myself Japanese cars seemed a better fit to my interests (and lack of mechanical acumen)...then when I had a bit more $ I was more into the Germans (first being my 2001 Audi S4)...but an M5 was always going to be too big and heavy...and to me todays M3s might as well be M5s. And forced induction with its ready torque and easy ability to enhance....well...who needed a V8?

Even a 4 V BW is borderline too large and heavy a car for me. If it weren't such a great car I'd have bought something smaller like an M2 comp....and even that car is on the porky side as far as I'm concerned. Thats just me.

I get the go kart aspect, I've owned 4 RX-7s and an RX-8. The 1st gen RX-7s I could toss around on the street like nothing else I've ever owned. I actually wouldn't mind owning one, if I could find one that wasn't beat to hell. Fact is you don't see many of them on the road anymore. Fact is that most new cars don't embody that spirit. I had a work colleague years ago that raced go karts. If you really want to go small, that's the way to go. He was ultra serious about it and told me it was a blast.

Having driven a good deal of muscle cars from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, I can talk from experience. The 5BW with 6-spd is a very unique car and suggest you own one before you cash in your chips sir.

Well I'm too old and arthritic to be getting in and out of a go-cart these days...but yeah.

A bunch of years ago a neighbor who was an SCCA instructor was doing an autocross class and invited my son and I up to drive the course after class. My son was able to run it in a cart and did have a blast. I ran it in the BMW ZHP. Having never done autocross before I did 2 serious runs and managed to get the third best time out the class of around 25 intermediate level students. I also did very well in the 4 V BW autocross at Spring MT (best time in my group by a good margin)....so its kind of my thing. My neighbor was mighty impressed.

I'm very familiar (and a fan) of the first gen RX-7 as well as the RX-8. Its probably the wankle engine to blame for their not being so many around, Fun and high reving but not long term reliable I think.

I considered buying a new RX-8 and did a test drive with the salesperson and had my two young boys in the car. I picked out a great little super curvy road and had a blast....with the sales guy screaming for me to slow down the whole time. After - he said I was banned from ever driving a car at their dealership. LOL I told him I needed to know if the car could meet my expectations (and it did). The boys loved it BTW.

I get it. Its a beastly car and I would love it. But for me some ridiculously fast Lotus or small Ferrari would be more my bucket list. A few years back my shop put the Audi 2.7 L Bi-turbo from an S4 into one and they said it was one of the fastest best handling cars they had ever encountered. Thats what I would want to own. Otherwise a nice 4L previous gen Caymen or Boxster could fit the bill. Wife wouldn't allow it so I ended up with the Caddy.

My 4 V BW is plenty fast enough for me even if it isn't full on nuts like the 5. With just a bit of added power though it can get going quickly and still handles great for its weight (one of the appeals of the 5 I think). I do sometimes think I should have gone all-in and gotten the 5....but for the most part very happy with the 4.

New front and rear glass, new headlights and taillights and drive it as is.

...kinda kidding, but something a youtuber would do....
