Well I am actually. But when all my friends were into muscle cars - I was more into Fiats, Aphas, Triumphs, MGs and such. But not being so mechanically inclined my 2 seater ended up being a supercharged MR2 in 1989. I've certainly spent time in friend's GTOs, Javelins, Chargers and the like back in the day....but they were never the car for me.You must not be old enough when everything American was V8. I still miss cars with front bench seats. Those were some great times.
I get the go kart aspect, I've owned 4 RX-7s and an RX-8. The 1st gen RX-7s I could toss around on the street like nothing else I've ever owned. I actually wouldn't mind owning one, if I could find one that wasn't beat to hell. Fact is you don't see many of them on the road anymore. Fact is that most new cars don't embody that spirit. I had a work colleague years ago that raced go karts. If you really want to go small, that's the way to go. He was ultra serious about it and told me it was a blast.Well I am actually. Don't get me wrong....its not that I don't love the V8s and muscle cars (up to a point)...I'm just more of a zig zagger vs straight line speed....though not allergic to that either...
The 4 V BW is the first American car I've ever bought. By the time I was buying cars for myself Japanese cars seemed a better fit to my interests (and lack of mechanical acumen)...then when I had a bit more $ I was more into the Germans (first being my 2001 Audi S4)...but an M5 was always going to be too big and heavy...and to me todays M3s might as well be M5s. And forced induction with its ready torque and easy ability to enhance....well...who needed a V8?
Even a 4 V BW is borderline too large and heavy a car for me. If it weren't such a great car I'd have bought something smaller like an M2 comp....and even that car is on the porky side as far as I'm concerned. Thats just me.
Well I'm too old and arthritic to be getting in and out of a go-cart these days...but yeah.I get the go kart aspect, I've owned 4 RX-7s and an RX-8. Having driven a good deal of muscle cars from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, I can talk from experience. The 5BW with 6-spd is a very unique car and suggest you own one before you cash in your chips sir.
I get it. Its a beastly car and I would love it. But for me some ridiculously fast Lotus or small Ferrari would be more my bucket list. A few years back my shop put the Audi 2.7 L Bi-turbo from an S4 into one and they said it was one of the fastest best handling cars they had ever encountered. Thats what I would want to own. Otherwise a nice 4L previous gen Caymen or Boxster could fit the bill. Wife wouldn't allow it so I ended up with the Caddy.Having driven a good deal of muscle cars from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, I can talk from experience. I'd be concerned with thermal fatigue to the metal with a car like this.![]()

And the brakes that were down right scary when applying on say a 78' monte from 100mphAnd the power steering you could spin with no effort with one finger and look like a boss parallel parking.
