I’ve done both, basically traded a C8 Z06 (for a G87 MT M2 first, huge mistake) then for a 25 MT BW. I ended up trading that back for a 25 Hysteria Purple 2LZ Z06 and am very very glad to have it back. Plus, I was pissed at myself for not researching the 25 MT BW changes……..and GM/Cadillac for deleting the blind spot monitoring, volume knob and potentially the standard camera security system the 24s and before have. I haven’t caught up here in a while so I don’t know if anyone has figured that out yet.
I absolutely loved the 5BW, especially the MT as it is one of the best around either past or present IMO. It was just too big and floaty for me (plus the deletions from above). Thats where it comes down to a personal preference. Some think the C8 Z06s are too harsh, but it’s the goldilocks zone for me. Not too harsh for DD cruising and obviously awesome when you dial it up for the backroads or the track. I prefer a more buttoned down ride though. If I go back to a 5BW I’ll get the Precision Package.
I disagree with others that it is only the motor that is the star of the show and to not get anything else, but that’s personal opinion. The car is so well balanced, the suspension is awesome that is all works extremely well together as a package. I also love the DCT and how it can be a bit rough at times, it adds some good drama that most cars are missing nowadays. The maintenance on the DCT isn’t that bad either, especially if you can do it yourself. I changed the oil, filter and DCT filter for $250 materials and 1-2 hours in my garage taking my time. Then you get a free service for both to be used in the first year. You have to have the filter changed at 7500 miles to maintain the DCT warranty. I did it earlier on my dime because they have had a lot of issues with them and I’ve heard good things about early and more often filter changes on the car. A DCT filter and flush is required at 22,500 miles if I remember correctly and yes that will be expensive at about $1000.
I had a 24 3LZ with the full aero, no front end lift and two tone red/black interior that annoyingly reflected off of the windshield badly in the sun. I also hated the Alcantara/CF steering wheel and that I couldn’t get just an OEM leather replacement for it. I did scrape a lot going into parking lots driveways etc.
So this go around I got the 2LZ package, which I recommend at minimum to anyone to get. It gets you quite a bit of things for not a lot more. The major ones that were important to me were these, nicer heated/cooled seats with power lumbar, better stereo, front and rear HD cameras and rear cross traffic alerts, which are a must for this car IMO. PDR is standard where it is an option on the 1LZs. I also got it with solid black interior, standard aero and front end lift option. No more scraping, easier to wash at home and no annoying reflections on the windshield anymore.
The CF stuff is also personal. I stay away from it because I don’t want the expense of replacing it if something goes wrong on my dime. People on the C8 Z06 forums are still having a hard time getting people to do tires for them, they are even been turned away by Chevy dealers. That’s the other thing, Chevy service absolutely sucks, they are having a hard time even doing oil changes correctly because it is a dry sump system and has two drain plugs. They are not draining the sump, just the crankcase and filling it up with 8-10 more quarts of the wrong oil because they all think they are Stingrays. Z06s take 8 quarts of 5W-50. I do all of my own service at home if I can.
Hope that helps, happy hunting. Sorry, don’t have too many pics of yet. A quick one at the dealer and then one I took last weekend when I started doing the ceramic coating process my self.
