What did you do to your Blackwing today?

Hey all, first post here! I debated where to post this between the spotting thread and here but since I met the owner of the other Blackwing in the photo and he ended up being my instructor I'm posting it here.

Did my first ever, in any car, track day down at Dominion Raceway in VA. I was in the novice group and was very fortunate that my instructor was a fellow BW owner, he was great and was able to give me specific instruction for our vehicles. The car is absolutely insane and I was focused on just trying to survive lol so I dont have many photos but please enjoy the below.

Some FAQ's I got at the track that I'll repeat here. MT, no PP, Typhoon Metallic paint but with "XPEL stealth PPF" on top, track number 62 for the 6.2L displacement of the engine, 5BW is short for 5 Blackwing as I'd hazard most people here would guess :).

My view... The touch car washes definitely swirl up paint. Now, PPF.. maybe less or no swirling, not sure. "Experts" typically say to avoid the touch less primarily because they use strong soaps that will degrade and remove ceramic coatings usually. I enjoy controlling the inputs, technique and washing the car at home so I don't use either but that's just me
Oh yeah I totally get it. XPEL comes with a 10yr warranty and they’ll replace sections if needs be. They straight up told me they all take their cars through auto car washes. Can’t recommend them enough.

I even went for their top tier which includes a ceramic impregnated PPF, and once a year I go back to get it re-coated (included in the cost).

Covered up the airbag warning labels. I bought matte black and matte dark gray vinyl. The dark gray was not dark enough so I went with black. Not perfect but I like it better than the bright warnings.

Ive never thought about this. This is awesome!

I've read about people removing the stickers with steam I believe, but I don't know if thats still viable.

Where did you get the vinyl? Was it pre-cut?

You can purchase the vinyl at any hobby store and cut to fit yourself. But you can also get them precut from Amazon or eBay. There's also this company that sells a swatch so you can get it perfectly color and material matched to your interior - Sunvisor Solutions - Automotive Label Covers SunVisor Solutions

Took my 5 in today to my local dealer. Having them install the red calipers to replace the gray ones. Dropped it off about 2 hrs ago. Hoping to get it back later today.

Saw a 2026 black 5BW just arrived I guess last night sitting on the floor. Still hadn't been processed. Fully optioned. The sales guy said it was getting shipped out to the owner in Arizona. Anyone here that owns it? Looked really good and I'm not a black paint guy. Location is Indiana at Fuson.

I like the sun visor cover site. If anyone gets some from them, please post what color you matched to. I just used vinyl as my wife has a Cricut so cutting is simple.

I had decals made with the modern Cadillac logo and Blackwing font. I tried to heat the seat belt warnings with a blow dryer to pull them off, like I was able to do in my Challenger, but, these were gonna cause damage, so I just left them and covered them up.

Where did you order the decals?

Changed the oil and filter in my 5BW today. Did my own oil change this time last year. Didn't think I overtightened the filter because I hand tightened it, but I must have. I had a devil of a time getting it off. You can bet I'll have a better removal tool before my next oil change.

The oil in the drain pan sure looked dirty until I stuck my finger in it. Only 2,096 miles since the last change. Does this look about right?

And yes..........I was lucky that I didn't drop my phone into the oil.:ROFLMAO:

This works nicely on the OEM GM PF64's.

Just make sure you wear a good set of gloves - there is a very sharp sheet metal edge that will slice your knuckles open as you're swinging the ratchet.

Like the prior poster (swoop1156), I just installed the Seat Jackers by DesertDoesIt.

I back to back drove my car with base seats vs one with the full bore Semi Anilines, and noticed that I was more comfortable on the gas pedal and under the knees in the fancy seats. I’m 6’7, longer torso than legs just as a data point. Bought the base seats on purpose knowing my use of the car and can always swap down the road if I want.

Here is what I installed thanks to the original poster, fit perfectly and super easy install. Attaching a few photos as well. It has made a pretty noticeable difference for me. Before my shins were a little uncomfortable because of the hump in the floor / gas pedal placement, and lack of thigh support. Now it feels equivalent in thigh support to the upgraded seats and MUCH more comfortable on the pedal. I do think the thigh extender comes out a minute amount further on the upgraded seats vs base.

Im picky with ergonomics having had very well setup track/race cars that took work due to my height. Only things left on my list to solve in the ergo dept would be a way to extend the stock steering wheel another 1-2inches, and if I’m choosy sit a little lower in the car.

Here’s what I ordered:
