Hello all, I see that Mobil 1 offers a 5w-50 dexo R oil for our LT4 was wondering if any of you in warmer climates use this?
It would be nice to have a little bit thicker hot film, especially when track days or even hot commutes
Thanks again

I hesitate to insert myself into an oil thread - ha! But I think the general consensus amongst the oil nerds is that th 5w50 is good for a short time - i.e. track use. But even in southern/summer temps the 0w40 is more appropriate for daily/road driving and/or trypical oil change intervals.

5w50 is really thick. Ford calls for that in their supercharged applications. It makes cold starts absolutely hilarious and terrible at the same time.

thats awesome, LOL but our cars are supercharged, and I am in SC so summer time where the lows are in the 65 plus range seems legit? I had my c 6 z done at RPM a stage 4 and I ran the Mobil 1 15-w50 in summer as that thing ran hot and in winter time LOL not really cold i ran the Mobil 1 5-40 so I am just curios if that would make sense or not? I was just struck odd that Mobil 1 offered this oil in Dexo R? thanks for answering

As others have said, the 0W40 flows much better when cold than the 5W50. While the difference in flow is less, the warmer the ambient temp when doing a "cold" start, it's still there. The 5BW doesn't run its oil hot, even on the track, so IMO there is no need for the 5W50 even if you are tracking the car. I don't remember what I saw when tracking my 5BW, but I think it was under 220.

My 2017 C7 Z06, which also has a supercharged LT4, runs its oil a lot hotter than the 5BW, as much as 280F. I stuck with the Supercar 0W40 for it as well. Haven't done an oil analysis yet as the onboard computer hasn't called for an oil change, but will send a sample to Blackstone when the time comes.
