CT5-V WTF - melting piston

CT5-V Model
I feel sorry for the issues you have. This is exactly why I won't be doing ANYTHING to a car that IMHO opinion, is perfect from the GM engineers that designed and built it. Only cosmetic changes for me. If I did all these expensive modifications to my engine , I would have to just accept that fact that sooner than later , it would shit the bed and expect to dole out more money.

You're right about that. I knew the engine would eventually go, but not this early. This was premature failure due to the shop's error.

I'm ok with refreshing bearings, seals, rings, etc every other year to daily 1200 WHP

Right.

You've got a realistic view of what the maintenance looks like on this level of performance. Man, this is incredibly frustrating, I hope there is some recourse or financial compensation coming your way. It seems like you and others are doing the best thing possible which is to get the word out that this isn't a reputable shop. It happens all too common in the aftermarket world, unfortunately.

Reviews for Omni Motorsports seem to be rather poor.

It's unfortunate however, I'm unaware of any reputable shops in CA. If I were to go down the modification road with my LT4, the closest that I can think of that are seemingly reputable would have to be either Cordes in AZ or, JDP in UT.

Hindsight is 20/20 but I guess if I lived in Cali, I would have paid to have my car shipped to one of the top shops in the country. They can arrange pick-up and delivery. Small price to pay for peace of mind when you're spending that much.

In a related comment about finding the right technicians......I have a 1967 Cadillac deVille convertible. 205,000 miles on her. (Original family owned.) The car has had electrical issues, blowing fuses, dim lights or none at all. I have had a few recommended guys. Most just average. I was recommended to a guy who works 1 day a week in a restoration shop. The rest of the week he works out of his home garage. He just fixed my 30 year old electrical issues in one week ! I have never seen my dashboard lights so bright in over 30 years ! He even recommended and changed most of my bulbs to LEDs. My signal switch on the steering column finally works like it did when brand new ! It was the best money I ever spent. I have always wanted my dashboard brought back to new condition and he said that he can do it....."no problem" ! Fixed my window alignments with the convertible top, gaps that let water in. 90% fixed ! All my other techs have always whined about what a huge job I was asking to do. This guy seems like no challenge is a problem. He fixed things that he came across and I didn't even know about !
Worth every dollar !

That's a lot of junk to work through to get there, but glad you did.

Every car has a story and my 67' Caddy has been in my family since new. I have spent far more money on her just keeping it running and looking nice. Its true that the sentimental value is worth far more than the actual value. I have wanted to give up on this car so many times. I'm just glad that there are still intelligent and competent people out there that work on these cars and still not charge a fortune. I open a hood on these new cars, especially my Blackwing, I look at it and close the hood. I haven't a clue what's going on under there !

The Ca story is that once someone gets a solid reputation building and tuning, CARB finds them and makes their life hard. So hard they end up shutting down or moving out of state.

Cunningham comes to mind...

Thank you. That was who I was thinking of but had forgotten their name. That was a top tier shop and they did too much business and got noticed by CARB. Wasn't there a huge fine involved also. I have only been there twice but each time they had at least 6-8 cars being built/tuned inside the shop, so they did too well and flew too close to the sun.

When I returned to Ca some years ago I sold all my cars with massive mods particularly those with long tube headers. It is not worth the anxiety trying to get them smogged.
