I just learned about these "AFM Range Disablers" ($250) that you plug into your OBD port and it makes your Blackwing V8 engine stay in the 8 cylinder mode instead of dropping to 4 cylinders when you are in that sweet spot while cruising. The claim is that dropping 4 cylinders is actually not good for your engine longevity. It was only designed to meet EPA requirements to get better fuel results in cars. Has anybody on the Forum installed one of these gadgets and what are your thoughts. I know that your fuel mpg will drop, but not by alot.

I have one, works great.

They are common used in the Corvette world. I don't use one on my Z06 as it rarely engages V4 mode in normal driving.

Do the manuals still have the weak lifters then? I suspect they do.

As far as I’ve read the AFM hardware is still present.

I have looked on line and have yet to find a Blackwing owner posting or on You Tube an owner showing their AFM disabler installed on their BW car. Has ANYONE on this site installed one? What brand have they used. I see on Amazon the prices go from $50 -$250 for one. I have seen Corvette owners talking about using them. Are the engines programmed the same as Corvettes ?

I have used them on Corvettes and they worked very well. But on a 2025 CT5BW automatic, does it have AFM? I have never seen a light or icon indicating that we are in 4 cylinder mode.

When traveling long road trips and I hit the sweet spot of 60-75 mph , the 4 cylinder light will come on (green) in my 2022 automatic 5BW.

I wanted a AFM Disabler for my '19 CT6-V as it goes into V4 mode quite often, but going to the sites they are not made for the 4.2L Blackwing Engine. I came across a guy who is very active in a CT6-V Forum and who is also a talented mechanic from what I've seen and who also has a CT6-V experimented with an AFM disabler he pulled out of a 2016 Escalade he was installing a new cam and lifters as the AFM system ruined the engine. He plugged the AFM Disabler in his CT6-V, it worked. I just ordered the one from Amazon. Another guy in the Forum tried the one desined for the 6.2L LT4 engine, that also worked in his CT6-V although he did comment his gas mileage did go down....lol This is the one from Amazon
