Surround Video Recording is out for MY25+

Last time my OTA update failed and the dealer had to perform the update. Next time that happens and I have to bring it in, I will ask them to update all of the modules and see if it enables the surround vision.

A lot of caveats here - it may be available for EVs only right now. Would be nice if GM actually communicated. This was originally supposed to be a pay walled feature with Onstar…but now it’s letting you record direct to a flash drive?

The addition of all of those “apps” also showcases GMs charge to turn your infotainment screen into an iPad. I get the potential they see in monetization but the use case between an iPad and a car is much different and one platform is much more malleable than the other. This coupled with the fact that they are not a software company is going to lead to nothing short of a disaster but their insistence that there will be no CarPlay after 2026 in ICE vehicles signals that they continue in that direction full speed ahead.

Latest news from GM is that CarPlay will remain in ICE vehicles for the foreseeable future.

For my 26, the latest software available according to GM SPS2 hooked up to my car doesn't have any new updates available and the one installed doesn't have this enabled. I'm guessing that Escalade gets these updates first then they flow down to others. I'll keep checking SPS to see if anything new becomes available.

The infotainment is primarily developed by Google (a software company). GM just takes it and integrates with the vehicles. Just like how Samsung does with Android on phones. Seems to work ok for that market.

The underlying OS is developed by Google but there is a certain level of effort required by GM (or any other vendor that uses Android on their devices) to implement and then support it. There is no auto maker other than Tesla that I've seen be able to do this right.
