Surround Video Recording is out for MY25+

Last time my OTA update failed and the dealer had to perform the update. Next time that happens and I have to bring it in, I will ask them to update all of the modules and see if it enables the surround vision.

A lot of caveats here - it may be available for EVs only right now. Would be nice if GM actually communicated. This was originally supposed to be a pay walled feature with Onstar…but now it’s letting you record direct to a flash drive?

The addition of all of those “apps” also showcases GMs charge to turn your infotainment screen into an iPad. I get the potential they see in monetization but the use case between an iPad and a car is much different and one platform is much more malleable than the other. This coupled with the fact that they are not a software company is going to lead to nothing short of a disaster but their insistence that there will be no CarPlay after 2026 in ICE vehicles signals that they continue in that direction full speed ahead.

Latest news from GM is that CarPlay will remain in ICE vehicles for the foreseeable future.

For my 26, the latest software available according to GM SPS2 hooked up to my car doesn't have any new updates available and the one installed doesn't have this enabled. I'm guessing that Escalade gets these updates first then they flow down to others. I'll keep checking SPS to see if anything new becomes available.

The infotainment is primarily developed by Google (a software company). GM just takes it and integrates with the vehicles. Just like how Samsung does with Android on phones. Seems to work ok for that market.

The underlying OS is developed by Google but there is a certain level of effort required by GM (or any other vendor that uses Android on their devices) to implement and then support it. There is no auto maker other than Tesla that I've seen be able to do this right.

Any updates? Anyone with a 25-26 have working surround video recording yet?
Just checked my 26 with SPS2 and nothing there. Apparently there's a new update spreading out to EVs at least so not just the Escalade anymore.

I requested every module in my '25 Blackwing be updated while the car was at the dealership for another issue. I have a new screen background color option (the default red and a new blue), but still no Surround view app or functionality.

I checked SPS tonight and there was an update available! Android 14, UQBM, similar to some of the other cars that have gotten Surround Vision Recorder but alas, it's still not there. The APK is on the filesystem but it didn't get installed.

The only discernable difference I'm seeing is the left screen controls got a tiny bit of a makeover with hud getting its own button and all of the gauges in the performance app can now be added to the drivers display (at least I seem to recall some inexplicably couldn't before).

Surround vision recorder is here finally! I installed in using GM SPS2 but folks on Facebook have reported getting it OTA. I think it's labeled as 662.20. I guess I now have two dash cams in my car. Interestingly the little red recording icon does trigger if either SVR or PDR are recording. I don't know why it's so picky about fat32. I had to use Rufus to format the a large USB with Fat32 since Windows doesn't natively allow it for drives over 32gb.

I chopped off the icons in the picture but it does record front, rear, and the sides. They are individual mp4s written to the USB.

Wait what!? They added surround vision???

Wow - surprised they added this. I wonder how hot the USB flash drive will get sitting in the console with constant R/W going to it.

I will check for updates when I get a chance this week.

Licensing. There's no royalties to pay for FAT32. The other common format for removable media, exFAT, does require licensing. Also exFAT is less reliable in terms of data corruption.

The android system can already read/write to exfat so definitely not a licensing issue. Reliability, maybe 🤷‍♂️

Does it record while driving?

What brand, speed and capacity for the USB stick is everyone using that works well with the surround recording??

installed in using GM SPS2
Since you have SPS2, what does it report for "vit.partno" when you view the "ECU Data" report? (I curious what software modules the acdelcotds website "SPS Information" page lists for a module confirmed to be android 14.)

Yeah, only while driving. The EVs have a feature that will record if the alarm is triggered as well but I think that would kill the 12v too quick in ICE vehicles. Still a far cry from Tesla sentry or Rivian Gear Guard.

I'm in over my head when it comes to this stuff tbh. You mean the ecu data on the AC Delco tds site or somewhere within sps2?
