Spring Mountain Impressions

Thanks. I'm definitely not planning on the dam n? tour, I know I won't have time for that and I really want to see the Grand Canyon as I have never seen it before other than from an airplane.
I did a helicopter tour into the Western rim with some friends and we landed into the Grand Canyon for brunch several years ago. Awesome experience and we had a great pilot.

Vegas has a helicopter tour on Las Vegas Blvd. by Maverick Helicopters. Their fleet of helicopters is fantastic ! I wanted to do a tour but had no time. They were constantly flying , well into the night. I only wish I could own one of their helicopters ! I did get to catch a glimpse of Hoover Dam and Lake Meade on approach to Vegas. You can easily see how much the water line has dropped.

Maverick is great. Highly recommend their tours

I'm going next week, Feb 15-16. Anyone else going? @dstewart51 ? The long range forecast is looking pretty good, about as you described...mornings in the 40s and afternoons in the 60s.

My flight lands in LV late morning on the 15th, so I have all afternoon to go do something and a Camaro SS rental to do it in. Current plan is to go see the Hoover Dam on my way to the Grand Canyon west rim and Skywalk. Any other recommendations?

Ill be there, weather looks okay so far;

I was sick all week. Didn't want to cancel. Had a blast, but really handicapped my potential, more so on day 2.

According to all the EV mapping programs, no. There's a supercharger in Las Vegas and a few L2 chargers in Pahrump. One of the reasons I switched my Hertz rental from a Tesla to a Camaro. ;)
Hopefully this gets resolved before the next class otherwise EV might be the way to go

The AM temp is going to be quite cold on Wed, calling for 25 now. I suspect it will warm up quick and should be in the 40's by the time we are in the cars for the first time. Last time I did a track day Spring Mt on one of my race bikes, cold Michelin slick was hard as a rock that lead to a T2 crash. Broken right clavicle, had to drive home with my arm in a T-Shirt made sling. Left my tire warmers back at home thinking it would be warmer that day.

When I was there, it was a Mon/Tues class. Then spent the rest of the week in Vegas. I wanted to do some sightseeing and light gambling. I went to a Ny Rangers vs. Golden Knights hockey game. Cirque du Soleil show "Ka"..highly recommended . Went to Zak Bagans Haunted House exhibit (save your money). I was right next to the Shelby Museum and thought it was just a factory, otherwise I would have definitely hit that. Then on the Saturday before I left on Sunday.....I got slammed with the type A flu. I was bedridden with the sweats in my hotel room. By Sunday afternoon I was well enough for the 5 hour flight home. I wanted to see Fremont Street at night on saturday and didn't get to do it. I did want to eat a nice steak dinner, but the local hotels/casinos are ridiculously priced for a steak, unless you are ok with dropping that kind of money. We went to a hotel/casino called "Silvertons". Its just off the strip about 10-20 minute drive depending on traffic. It still cost $240 (with tip) for two steak dinners with shrimp appetizer, drinks. It would have been about $200 more in Vegas proper. You pay a premium for the ambiance. Heck, 3 slices of pizza, water and a coke were $60 bucks at Caesars Palace ! Then I won $83 on the slots, so it worked out.

Oh goody...now all the instructors are sick. 😷
Lol, nah. I was on Mucinex extra strength for a full week before I got there. It was just the residual back drip choking that wasn't compatible heading into a 4th gear turn at 95mph.

To those who have attended, did you stick with the $10,000 liability or buy-down to $2,000 for the extra $250?

Previous track events I've been to had full insurance coverage lumped into the program price with nothing extra required of me.

I'm not planning to break world records when I go (i.e. majorly push the car's limits), so I'm thinking the 10K should be fine, but the 'chance' of things going off the rails is making me pause for thought. (There's a chance of anything, anywhere. I know, I know...haha)

Sorry if I missed it in this thread; I searched but didn't find anything.

pay the 250

I was fine not paying the $250. I was pushing pretty hard, don't think the change in liability would have had an affect.

I paid the $250. In grand scheme of things, a little $$ covers a big headache if you end up doing something really wrong. Who knows when driving a 600 hp car.
