Magnetic Paddles by MadTrace

Just got my paddle shifters. They look great. I'll be trying to install them this weekend and will post a how-to if I can even figure it out 😂

Installed. Going to see how they are over the next few weeks.

Took a few hours. Had to watch an online video of someone taking off their steering wheel on their CT5. I didn't remove mine but I would if I did it again. Might be easier to have the dealer do it.

I found the same youtube video -- was super helpful for the smaller airbag clip on the bottom

in the end I could not break the torx T50 loose on mine, even with mild heat applied. As soon as I started to see the beginning signs of stripping, I called it quits. This thing is in there and will not budge with a breaker bar. The dude in the video had a tough time, but nothing like this.

I will try one more time without removing the wheel now that it is not 110*F in my garage.

These have been on my workbench for almost 2 months collecting dust:

the action is sweet on these paddles, and I would love to get them installed myself. One more shot and then i will defer the project to the dealer

Wonder how you can do it without removing the wheel if it is possible to do it that way.

The torx screws are the easier part of the install. The hard part is disconnecting the wires and reconnecting them since they are extremely short. I ended up disconnecting the main harness in order to have some play in the wire. That alone is the reason I would actually remove the steering wheel, s8nce you already have the airbag out and the harness disconnected.

In the end, it's worth it! Normal paddles will feel lacking by comparison. Sometimes I do wish the paddles were solid metal since the carbon fiber has some flex to it.

The Zunn ones look significantly wider/thicker than the madtrace ones, so maybe there is less flex there. Or it's just because the photos are close up. I'll find out if the china special ones work though.
