Fit and Finish Issues - '23 4BW

This is making me wonder: with all the specialized services out in the world, I would figure there might be automotive specialists who specifically are “rattle people” who are experts in tracking down and addressing interior rattles/noises in cars. Is that a thing??
Never heard of anyone but would be useful to have ”a rattle guy”…. :)

Hopefully their employees would be required to have a hearing test once a year as condition of employment.

is there not felt on the latch between the leather already?
My car has been squeak free until this week and I found the passenger seatbelt latch rubbing on the side of the center console as the issue. There is felt on the seatbelt latch assembly but it appears not high enough, so plastic to plastic rubbing. Once I pushed it the opposite direction the squeak went away. I'm going to add some felt to eliminate the squeak.

Finally got my car to the dealer:

sunroof noise = “it needs a new seal but they are back ordered“
new software update =“nope. No new updates available.”
seatbelt squeak =“tech couldn’t hear it even on the highway”. Me: “that’s why I asked you to let me show the tech how to reproduce it. Also I told you it was only a problem at low speed over bumps.“

So I get to go back on Tuesday to do what I originally asked to do, show the tech how to make it squeak. God knows when the seal will be in.

Sigh. I hate knowing answer. Telling someone the answer. Having it be ignored. Then being asked for the answer later when they can’t figure it out. Rework!
Try this for that Sunroof Squeak.
It’s helped me before, on squeaky seals.
Dealer gave me the bottle, after they applied it to my door seals.

I think about this often. I would happily pay someone if they could permanently address rattles.

I've become an amateur version of this at least. I've got panel tools and spare interior clips for all the vehicles I've owned. I keep dynamat and felt tape "in stock." I discovered buying Thinsulate in bulk from the van life types... I lined my 4Runner's door panels and hatch panel with it and it makes a very noticeable difference. The 4Runner is of the age where cold weather brings out a whole chorus of rattles. It's discouraging because there seem to be too many to nail down.

The 4BW however still seems to have few enough rattles that they're theoretically isolated and findable. And hopefully fixable.

We should probably start a dedicated and sticky "rattles" thread for each BW where we can share findings in one place...

I've only got about 2200 on mine, but fortunately, it's squeak free

My son does a lot of noise complaints on Jeeps (go figure) and spends a lot of time with the little felt pads after using both his ears and an electronic device listening for squeaks

For weatherstrip type squeaks, I've used Gummi Pflege in the past. Essentially what BMW uses on their cars and can be purchased at Amazon

I use Gummi Pflege as well and apply annually on all my weatherstripping and all my cars for years now with great results. The stuff works for me and my weatherstripping stays supple and squeak free thus far.

See update on OG post.

My older brother just got his 2024 Mercedes Benz S-580. Its a 150K car. The car sat for 2 months in a Baltimore shipping port until Mercedes authorized its release. The MB websites didn't even have 2024 models to build out. Anyway, he finally was given the car and he has had it only a month and the car has been back to the dealer 3x already for a check engine light that keeps popping. I have to check out that Gummi Flege stuff and put it on my rubber seals. I can't complain about my 5BW.......I hardly ever drive it.

Common story with current Mercedes cars. CELs are rampant on all the new generations. It's not an S Class, but the new C43 has a manufacturing flaw where molding sand got left behind in the engine block. It basically ruins the coolant system within a few hundred miles of driving. The only fix is to give it to the dealer for a month or longer and have them continually flush out the coolant over and over and over and hope all the sand is gone. And chances are it's not. It's gotten so bad that if the issue pops up Mercedes is immediately offering to buy the car back.

This brand is heading into a sandbank these years..

I fully expect Blackwing seats to be a bit squeaky after analyzing there sturdyneas vs German rivals, sunroof problems... Humm let's just say it's a hit or miss in everbrand. Lastly the Blackwing charger is the best I ever experienced in any car but I have a galaxy S22 plus so who knows...

This is my first car with a wireless charger and I've always heard how pointless they were in cars. All I ever read was they weren't so much of a charger as they were a phone heater. Made the phones get extremely hot and barely charged the phone. I was shocked when the one in my BW actually worked. It doesn't charge incredibly quickly, but the phone doesn't really get hot at all.

I'm totally fine if it's just efficient at taking my phone from 10% to like 50-60% ,while I'm driving, the one in my BMWs wasn't even capable of keeping the phone from discharging if you used CP/AA. Your lucky if they give you 10% in an hour with the phone shut off... I tested the Blackwing many times in different scenarios and it's even more efficient than a tabletop one I have at home.

Mine wasn’t a squeaky seat. It was the seatbelt retractor.

Wireless charger working great on my Samsung Android. haven't used yet with the wife's iphone...

The wireless charging seems a little sensitive to the phone model and size. I have an oddly shaped phone (Sony Xperia 5 IV), and sometimes it works great, while other times the phone is kept awake by phantom inductive keypresses.

I think there are cold-air vents under the phone mat to keep the phone cool.

Reading through old threads and can't believe nobody connected you with this guy:

I, too, always start by checking the back seat first.....LOL

Ha, of course this is a thing.

I agree with some commenters though, this car is brand new. I think a lot of loosening up happens even in the first 5k.

I still have an annoying plastic rattle by my left ear. Thought it was the B pillar, stuffed a bunch of foam, but that wasn't it. Sprayed silicone lubricant all along the door seals. Nada. Next thing I'll look at is the black plastic in the seat. It does make a lot of creaking noises when pressed.

I also experience a decent amount of wind noise when on the highway. Looking forward to see if new sunroof seals fix it.
