Engine Break In - 500 mi or 1500 mi

So because there are other dip shits that means it's ok to be a dip shit? Fuck off with your 143 mph selfie. That is some dumb ass shit right there, no matter what road you are on.
Sounds like you need some throat yogurt

Sorry to revive this thread....I bought a 2026 5BW and currently have about 700 miles on it. I generally kept the RPMs under 4k for the first 500 miles, but have been doing some spirited canyon runs since the car hit 300 miles or so. I've adhered to the other constraint -- kept it under 4k (until I hit 500 miles, did an oil change and have been occasionally going to around 4.5k - 5k), and try to keep it under 80mph. Would the spirited canyon runs where I'm putting a decent amount of lateral g's be bad for diff break-in?

Also will it be clear if the diff didn't break in properly (i.e. I'll hear that low howling noise while cruising on the highway)?

No.

What would be bad - and when you'll likely hear noise, is low speed sharp turns like in a parking lot. Heavy throttle/acceleration in turns should be avoided for a while longer. And no burn outs. :bu

New break in period is 1500 miles of driving under 4000 rpm/under 80 MPH - with no prolonged constant speed driving.

Diff oil should be changed at 1500
Per Tremec - trans oil should be changed at 500 miles.

Thank you! I realize this is a somewhat contentious topic :)

I'm just a bit worried I pushed the car too hard in the mountains -- I pulled nearly 1g of lateral acceleration through the bends! So I'm wondering if that would hurt the diff break in and how I would be able to tell if that's the case.

I'm new here, but old. Every car and subsequent forum for said cars have had this exact same thread with the exact same comments. Everyone needs to just do whatever they want, it's their car. Some will drive it like they stole it from the moment they pull it off the dealer lot, some will park it and drive it only on those special days. I have come to the realization that cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed. The majority of them will lose value. One should buy a car to drive it not to sell it. If you fall in the latter you should be buying investment vehicles and not something that is meant to be driven. You are only taking care of the vehicle for the next owner who probably will simply drive it like it was meant to be driven. Just my 2¢.

I hear you and agree with your sentiments, but believe that most in this particular thread are more considering/discussing/debating what will likely give them and their bw optimal performance as they drive/enjoy it.

Welcome to the forum.

Damn shame there isn't some kind of book that gives all kinds of info about the car. I'm going to write a letter to GM and suggest that. Maybe they can even post it on those fancy interwebs

I could be written expressly for end users and be a sort of operating manual. If only, right?

Yeah, but consider the source. What would the people who engineered and built the car know about how to use it?
