Does Thorton chip tuning work?

Noticed on the bottom of this page an advertisement for Thorton Chip. They say stage 3 chip will give you 60 HP and 5 MPG increase for $89 on 5BW. Sounds to good to be true. Anyone have actual experience with this plug and play chip? Work as advertised, sort of work or total BS? PS I have a manual BW so not sure if this affects the gas mileage results compared to an automatic.

Do you really want to trust an unknown on your $100,000 car to change the software that engineers at GM have spent a lot of time programming this car? Would you even notice a 60 HP increase on a 600+ HP car? If something goes wrong, it gives GM a reason not to warranty the engine. Is this really worth it?
