Blown Engine(add me to the list)

Really sorry to hear about this. I hope the rest of your repair goes well.

I just turned the 10,000th mile on my '23 and also thought I was out of the woods. :(

It seems like a lot of the bottom-end failures happen at low miles, but @CT5BWenthusiast had rod bearings go at 21,000. Issues with lifters seem to be something that could happen any time. Though for context I'm still tracking 'only' 15 reported failures on this forum from MY22-24
Man, I'm at 20,100 miles currently. I was feeling content with the idea of keeping this car forever, but every time this thread gets bumped up to the top, it's a reminder that perhaps I should consider myself lucky that I haven't had a single engine issue thus far, and move on to something else?

Problem is, there just isn't anything that fulfills the multiple personality role of daily driver, family sedan, and track monster. The replacement would have to be a stable of cars.

I feel exactly the same way, there's a nagging fear that it's "not a matter of if, but when", but then when I take it out on an empty twisty backroad first thing in the morning I promise myself I can never sell it :D

Based on what I've read of other people's posts, our LT4 features a mis-manufactured chocolate crankshaft like the L87, but the only reason it hasn't been recalled is that the sales volume doesn't cross the threshold for the NHTSA to mandate action. Well, that and we're already using 0W-40 lol. So they're just going to let them fail in the field. If that's the case that's pretty appalling for a flagship product, but then again even Toyota engines are blowing up now, and somehow people also keep buying McLarens, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don’t lose any sleep over it, but can see someone underwater could be sweating. If my engine blows out of warranty I’ll either replace it or sell the car as is.

True, although having the engine seize up on a country backroad without cell service would be a real PITA also

The improbable generally doesn’t sway my decision making too much (unless we’re talking about seat belts, helmets, health, etc), and what a shame it would have been if I made the choice to settle for something unlikely.

It’s still a big IF in my world, but an out of warranty failure for me would be an opportunity to optimize the LT4 with better parts and related improvements. It would be a shame to spend resources like that, but not the end of the world for me and DEFINITELY isn’t going to keep me from enjoying the car for a very long time.
