***DISCLAIMER*** So first, let me say that I DO have a CT5-V Blackwing that is part of the Collectors Edition, and in no way am I saying that the work I've done is authentic from Cadillac, it's my attempt to recreate something that came with the car originally and if I sell the vehicle, I'll represent that it is also not authentic. ***DISCLAIMER***
I picked up my Blackwing in April this year and turns out it's part of the Collectors Edition cars, so it's one of the first 250 CT5-Vs (#62). I did a ton of searching on my VIN and it sold between Cadillac to a non-Cadillac dealer (performance shop) and then to an auction site where the only other actual "owner" had the car. It's a 2022 and when I bought it, although I was the 4th owner, it only had 4xxx miles.
In the posts I found, I saw that it had a framed picture that came with it and there are some pictures of that, so I did some digging and found articles like this: Here's The Gift Sent To Cadillac Blackwing Sedan Buyers
I called all the previous shops and the dealer I bought it from, nobody had it, so I decided to recreate to the best of my ability.
Here's the badge in the door jam my car came with:
It also gets a door plate signed by someone on the original design team:
Here's the pics I have of the original framed picture that were part of one of the dealer to dealer sales prior in the cars life:
So you can see why I really wanted to get one of these. First I used the steering wheel plaque as a guide. Measured the one in the car, then used that measurement and the plaque in the pictures I have to get close measurements to sizes of everything in the frame. I ordered the same Cadillac badge based on size (it's from an ATS trunk) found the part number for a blank steering wheel plaque, bought some raw carbon fiber and recreated the certificate using the same font, but populated my name up top for the fun of it.
I found 2 issues though, I wanted the real signatures and written pieces to look authentic, I asked some friends to help me and they were able to angle the red V from the pic of the pic I have above and get it properly aligned, then they moved the signatures over. Then the other signature as well to the certificate.
Then I found a laser engraver and we got the plaque engraved to match the one on my steering wheel (it's not perfect, but it's as close in font as we could get it). Cut the carbon in the same direction as the original picture and started putting it together.
With all that done, I took everything, the measurements and all materials down to a framing place and they matched colors and finishes. 2 weeks later the final product came home and I have to say, it looks PRETTY close. Thoughts? Please Cadillac don't sue me. I called and asked you if there was any way to recreate and I was told it would never happen. Just wanted to have this piece to go with the car, and this is as close as I can get.
Here's the FACTORY ONE:
And here's the RE-CREATION:
