I live in Florida and drive my car fairly hard. I noticed after spirited driving, my oil pressure is at 15psi or so with ambients at 80ish. I would like that to be a bit higher especially with 95 ambients coming soon.

I want to run something a bit thicker. I’m not a fan at all of moble oils. Iv never run supercar, but in my experience mobile always seems to run thin for its claimed viscosity.

I did some research, and it appears the amsoil euro 5w40, although not technically dexos certified, it has other euro certifications that exceed dexos. It is designed for DI and turbo engines.

Anybody running this lube? Anybody have blackstone reports comparing oe fill oil to amsoil euro?

I don’t think you’re going to find a lot of people running anything but the mobile one stuff because it’s the only oil approved by GM for our cars. Personally - For that reason alone I won’t run anything else. Its the only oil they keeps my warranty.

And 15psi at idle is less than HALF of what I see. That’s disturbingly low.

Edit: I should have specified 5bw

AMSOIL 5W-30 Signature Series oil has the Dexos Gen 3 approval.

Castrol Edge and Edge Extended Performance also have Dexos 1 certification for the 4BW.

Hi there, I am thinking about doing the next oil change myself. Paul Conti did the first one at 2,265. Service Consultant would not tell me what brand oil they used! Maybe AC Delco Full Synthetic? My bad for not insisting. In any event have you had any oil samples tested (Blackstone or other lab) and which Oil Filter are you using? Thanks

I'm running LiquiMoly 5w30/40 depending on use.

Any of this apply to the 5BW? I do my own oil changes & have been using Mobil1 0W-40 SuperCar religiously.

I saw some videos that showed the higher end oils like Redline and Amsoil retain their rated viscosity better over time. If you already shorten your intervals, it probably doesn't matter much.

Yup. I do 5k intervals, or after heavy use, like a trip to the tail of the dragon. I use 5w40 for that since I see higher oil temps.

I believe these cars are filled with Mobil from the factory, so that should be what they used to re-fill it up as well.

I use the upgraded oil filter PF63. Tapout has good prices on it usually and fast shipping.

As far as samples, I have never really bought into that since if you get a "bad" sample result....no one has really told me what they do to remedy it? It's not like the dealer will accept a warranty claim based on a 3rd party lab. I feel like people pay for the service for peace of mind mostly. To me, I just pay attention to the car. Every time I go through the drive through, I open all my windows and turn off all the AC and music and listen to the car. I've caught two issues with the turbo/throttle body like that.

You really need multiple samples to get good data. Tracking an increase in certain metals over time can indicate wear.

I agree that a good ear can detect a lot before it's an issue, I just like to jam out too much.

It's also too hot here to not have the windows up and the A/C on.

For sure, but again, even if you see those metals increase....unless there is something wrong with the engine's performance/oil/sound/etc....is the dealer really going to address the wear just based on the oil samples?

My gut would tell me no, so I just don't see much of a point. Again other than peace of mind.

The dealership would only use an oil sample to deny a warranty.

Unless there is a diagnosable issue, they're not going to do anything, agreed.

I like using the Ultraguard Gold "race" versions of delco filters.

Last I heard it was the only oil filter made from 100% synthetic materials. And it has an anti-drainback check valve.

Delco had a demo setup at sema years ago that showed it was the only filter that didn't bypass refrigerated oil.

I've used the upf48r on my 2007 Z06 and 2014 CTS-V for years.

[edit: rockauto.com has good prices on these]

I may switch to those, Bobistheoilguy has some great reviews on the ACDelco filters over Wix XP.
