Welcome to the Cadillac V-Series Forums!

Am I the only one here interested in vintage vehicles?

We currently have a 69 Hurst/Olds, a 71 Olds 442, an 84 Hurst/Olds, and 85 Olds 442, and an 87 Olds 442

I'll just say....a few of my favorite Olds. I had a 85 442 years ago. Pretty awesome car for the day. I miss it and would love to have a 87 442 or of course, a 87 GN or GNX. Pix?

Far too few pics of people's old cars here - that's what I thought we'd see a lot of. :)

ArgentWing, not sure why it matters whether someone wants to discuss CT4/5 cars or other modern muscle. But there's a reason a forum like this exists, and that's to concentrate on the V-series Cadillacs. Today it's CT4/5-V and Blackwings that are popular. Just wait a few years after they stop making them and these too, won't be discussed much here or anywhere else. Don't believe me? Just wait. I used to think that about 4th gen Camaro forums, too.

But at the moment, they are, so I'm gonna roll with it while it lasts.

We currently have a 69 Hurst/Olds, a 71 Olds 442, an 84 Hurst/Olds, and 85 Olds 442, and an 87 Olds 442, a 2010 Camaro SS, as well as a 2013 ZL1 Camaro convertible, along with a 2020 GMC Denali and our just-purchased 2025 CT5-V series. I've almost always had a Camaro of some sort, and no use for a Corvette of any year. We bought a Caddy Wagon in 2010, a CTS in 2016, a CT5-V in 2020, and finally the 2025 CT5- it's our 5th new Cadillac. Sure, the V6 TT isn't as stout as the ZL1, but it drives wonderfully and has enough umph to do what I want it to do. Every era has had their "muscle." And I'm here to embrace it until I can't.
How do you manage that? Lots of cars say change the oil every 12 mo even if not driven. Don

Here's a few older pics, haven't taken any in a while...I still appreciate the "older" stuff, but some of the cars bought new, WAS the new stuff at that time of purchase.

Had one of those 2002 Camaro SS's from SLP upfit back in the day. Here it is when I first saw it on the truck. Bought a matching 2002 Camaro Z28 for the wife. She sold hers and bought the 2010 Caddy Wagon.
No longer owned.

" I'll be your Huckleberry". I have my dad's 1967 Cadillac deVille convertible with 204,000 miles on her now and I have my retirement gift "to me" of my 2022 CT5-V Blackwing. I call them my Beauty and my Beast ! I also have my 2014 Dodge Challenger R/T Plus that I have made into a 1971 Cuda....lovingly referred to as my "ChallaCuda". And I used to have a 1987 Olds Cutlass Supreme. God, I miss that car !

Interesting history. A little of mine... My parents traded our first year 289 Mustang for a 67 442 (4 spd-our family car, LOL). Traded that in 69 for another 442 (auto), that I learned to drive on. Traded that for a 72 H/O (I occasionally got to drive that to last year of high school. My car was a 57 Chevy). When I had a good job and some money I bought a 75 H/O. My oldest brother had a 69 H/O and my mom still had the 72. Too many cars in between then and now, but sold my 57 after 50 years of ownership to help pay for my CT5V. For old iron, I have a 64 GMC LWB stepside in stock condition

How do you define vintage? Is it muscle cars? For me the 66-67 Chevelle is one of the best looking cars of the era but to get it to perform like a modern car (I'll be charitable and say modern is 2005 or so) you're spending a LOT of money. It's hard to beat this modern performance era that we are living in, but maybe I need to learn to appreciate a more simple era of transportation.

I really like vintage vehicles but I try not to purchase pre-owned unfortunately. My loss because there's some golden opportunities out there. Love admiring those vintage vehicles and taking pictures as well.

It seems that most people here don't have much if any interest in vintage vehicles. In a recent post it appeared there were only two choices for performance vehicles. CT5 Blackwing (which I don't have) and C8 Corvette (which I wouldn't want). There are plenty of older or vintage vehicles to scratch your performance itch. Why only interest in brand new vehicles?View attachment 31237

I think trying to define "vintage" is like asking what the best oil is. Hundreds of different answers. While it's true, 50 years of engineering improvements SHOULD net you with a better car, it's not all that. Things have gotten more efficient, and what was an option a few years ago is now standard equipment. And, given money no object, probably would be better by even more if it weren't for bean-counting.

I say if you want a modern car, buy a modern car. The real lure of a car such as a 67 Chevelle, is that they were simple ground-pounders when equipped with SS equipment and big blocks. Not refined, but not horrible, either.

Newer cars safer? Sure. Combine general engine performance with fuel economy? Certainly. But look at your options for what the general consensus is for a performance-oriented car. That pool got real small real quick. And you best have deeper pockets if you want those niche cars.

The issue to me is this, performance cost big $$$$ today. No longer can the punk kid out of high school get a job and buy a car that could melt the tires off the rims on the cheap. I'm very glad I was able to do that when I was growing up. Probably what's wrong with America now... lol

I'm such a sucker for the G bodies. I still have a huge soft spot for my 82 Cutlass Calais (loved that car) and my 85 442. I'd still buy one of them or a GN/GNX. Thanks @ResidentAlien for your pix.

I've had a few of them, although when I owned them they were not exactly vintage. The Camaro was very reliable, and I put a crate engine in it. The best part is no cats. The 69 Vette was a PITA with the 427 Tri-Power. If you don't know what that is, you're lucky. The engine used 100 octane gas and got about 6 mpg in the city. I would not own one again, everything about the 5BW is better than the 69 Vette. Let's face it, it was a straight line car (and pretty mediocre at that), like pretty much all the cars of that era.

I think we were a bit hard on Argent Wing. Seems to me he was just asking if any of us had any interest in older cars....a pretty harmless inquiry I think.

Anyway - I've only owned and still own one vintage car - an un-restored 1964 1/2 289 4 brl Mustang Convertible with around 58K miles. Its been in the family since new with lots of fine memories around it. I officially became the owner sometime in the mid-late 80s and it had about 38K on the odometer. We get it out spring-summer & fall but mostly just around town or for rides out into the country - wineries and such. Every once in a while we'll take it to the beach and such.

Note - pics wouldn't post so I'll try again later and see if I have better luck.

Maintenance costs keep me car poor. Between oil and coolant changes....I do most all the work myself, and I'm retired, so it's much easier to do now.
