2025 5-BW Precision Package Questions...

Smart, like talking with authority about something you have neither seen nor experienced?

Have owned high performance cars with better handling than 5V and they had cup2R tires, so yeah, I do have experience in these matters. If you need to shave 2 seconds off your track time, then by all means pony up. If you are cruising the streets and hitting some back roads, then you just need it for bragging rights and terrible grip in cold/wet weather.
 
...and my BW has ceramic brakes, they are fine in cold weather.

+1. For someone only running on the public roads, it’s just bragging rights. Nothing wrong with that I suppose. If someone wants it and has the extra $$, go for it. I have CCBs by circumstance, but glad I have them just for no brake dust and they look badass. There may be a small improvement in handling and better strip time, but I probably won’t notice.

+1 on this. Have CCB because the car i wanted happened to have them, and the lack of brake dust is a huge bonus, along with significant unsprung weight savings šŸ‘šŸ¼
 
The more I think about it, the choice of naming on the PP is odd. I guess my 22 has the sloppy package.

Has anyone driven or ridden in a BW with the new Precision Pack option? Even a test mule, i.e. someone with a friend at GM, etc. would be good.

I am wondering if I should get this with my 2025 order. It basically makes the 5-BW a track car. My question is, what would it be like as a daily driver? Would it be way too stiff?

Another question would be the carbon-ceramic brakes... I've heard they're not good cold and could cause issues on a DD because of this. Anyone?

My guess is that it would be the same as or similar to a Camaro 1LE, but I don't know anyone who has a 1LE either.

I can speak to the CCBs on a daily from personal experience. 27k dd miles in Michigan and I would never say ā€œavoid CCBs for daily useā€. At times they take a second to warm up and bite but honestly it’s not something i have to actively think about. That being said if they get wet while sitting still (like at a touchless car wash) they are absolutely useless, like zero bite until you get some heat in them. I leave the touchless wash carefully and do a couple hard brakes and they come back to life. As far as the precision package goes I haven’t driven one but several friends at GM have and I was told not to drive one unless I’m ready to open my wallet. Reason for that being all of my complaints about the 5BW on track are basically how it’s not a 1LE (did 34 track days on my 17 SS 1LE and was so comfortable with it). In simple terms my engineer buddy said the precision package makes the BW behave ā€œmore like a 1LEā€. Everyone who has driven it also raves about how it totally suited it is for daily use (couple of the guys owned ZL1 1LEs and had that rough ride engrained as what a track pack is from GM on an alpha car).

My first 250 car had an MSRP of $116 with basically every option but sunroof. For an extra $9k on top of that I’d have gotten a precision pack without thinking twice. At $150k as a result of the continuous price increases that’s a bit too much for me to swallow at this point, but wish I was getting one in green lol. Seems like a no brainer if you have the money and intend to track the car.

I drive my vehicles for what they are designed to do. 4 x 4 goes on the beach, in the snow, mudding, hill climbing etc. BW with Precision Package designed for Tracks and as a daily driver... 4000 miles. Been to track day to learn and experience the technology and various options. Then the Dragon.. The suspension, tires and camber work like a champ. Makes for controllable cornering with the options to adjust the traction control for your skill and comfort level. Have not been to a dragstrip yet to test and adjust the Launch zcontrol with linelock if you need to warm uo and wear out your tires. The Michelin Pilot 4S tires are hoding up well after a few hundred miles on the Tail of the Dragon typically pulling over 1.2 G's on the various switchbacks.

Oh and the Carbon Fiber Brakes are bigger better and did not overheat under track conditions. Yes they are expensive, but they will last more than 3x longer. I have a tahoe with Brembo brakes changed the fronts at 65000 miles.
 
Having just done a track day at NCM in my ā€˜23 with iron brakes, I feel like the main thing holding me back is outright cornering grip. So many corners, I was having to hold back to avoid shredding the front PS4Ss. I didn’t feel like the chassis was a problem—with the track alignment, the car was playful yet predictable, as opposed to with the stock alignment where it seems to tend towards understeer and not have much interest in rotating on demand.

To be fair, my skill level and knowledge of the track (this was my first time there) were also holding me back, but I’m confident that grippier tires would have shaved a tiny but not insignificant bit from my lap times.

Also, I owe something like $60k on my 2023. I can’t justify multiplying that by 2.5, adding 2 years to my loan, and at least several hundred dollars to my monthly payment, in order to drop a couple seconds from the lap times.

I do regret the iron brakes, but only from a dust standpoint—they held up to NCM just fine. I found a vendor that makes custom CCBs and is getting me a set with pads for $7500 shipped.

Here’s my last and best session at NCM. Following a Porsche 997 early on. Skip ahead to 26 minutes to see me tailing a 911 Turbo S and a Cayman GTS for multiple laps.
