Stock pads are excellent. In fact, from one GM brake cal-engineer, he's said they've never seen anyone get to the 2nd level of the brake fade message organically. AKA, unless you have 600whp, hoosiers, and are an absolutely maniac you'll struggle to find a better option than stock.
I think this is the second time someone posted a service report with exactly, "THIS IS A BLACKWING." somewhat randomly inserted in the middle of the explanation. - or maybe it was you before. I'm too busy and lazy to go search. (not busy enough apparently, lol)
...trip and the C8 kicked a** on the track (ran 2:29 on the stock Michelin 4S tires, everything stock besides brake fluid, alignment, and brakepads). But, got home, washed the rubber and bug marks off the car, parked it, and slid behind the wheel of my Model S Plaid to take the family on a few...
The C7 Corvettes do not have eBoost brakes or "brake by wire". Brake by Wire is part of the Global B platform (C8 Corvettes and Blackwings). It makes sense that changes in software tuning need to occur if switching from iron rotors and pads to CCBs. There has to be an adjustment of pedal feel...
XP12s are probably going to eat rotors with street driving and are specifically flagged as not for street driving given they need a lot of temp to actually bite and will dust like crazy.
Believe Carbotech advertises all their compounds as compatible so you can flip from 1521s to XP12s when...
The pictures just won't turn out. Really not much to see in the pictures.
In person they have a much more rich or deep quality to them. Here's hoping they clean up easily as that's what really prompted the venture.
What did you use? I used Gtechniq C5.
I've since seen some information about using paint coatings on rims.
The next time i get it out of the garage, I'll grab some pictures!
Let's pick up some activity in this section! Took my CT4 to Sonoma this weekend, lots of fun. Love the car and PDR.
Found the OE tires get greasy after a couple hot laps, I would have to do a couple fast laps, cool down, then go again. Only thing I'm still trying to get used to is the e boost...
Yes. The CCB pads are completely different compound.
Since the BW is 'brake by wire' you also need to tell the computer you are running carbon vs iron rotors. It's not simply a mechanical swap.
Ohhh I just realized for our CT4s, its only the rear ducts and smaller front dust shield. No front ducting like the 5s. The bag I have says DEFLECTOR KIT-FRT making me think its a front kit. I should have read the manual in there LOL
Ok I think I wont bother installing then..
I have not unfortunately. On the three track days that I have done I've always left it on the stock power. The stock brakepads were having mild fade issues on the long straights, adding a few MPH above stock speeds and harder stopping was not something I would have liked to do personally...
This is me at VIR in the 5BW. Wasn't even pushing it hard & also braking way early at the end of the back straight. No brake fade at all even with using the brakes too much per lap --
But you be you & if changing to a more aggressive brake pad gives you more confidence at the track, then do it.
Most of us have done spring mountain (SM) and other bigger tracks, the OEM pads are up to the task. Same with coolant, SM abuses these cars in the desert summer without issue.
I have a full set of EBC SR-11 pads for the 4BW, Fronts have half a track day on them (basically new) and rears are brand new in the box.
These are the best pads you can install on a Blackwing, they last a very long time and are drivable on the street without being loud as a bus like other...
I was going to say brakepads before I even read that you replaced them. My troubling shooting always goes back to the last thing I did, so I can almost guarantee it’s the pads. These Brembo calipers are known to have this issue, particularly with non-oem pads that don’t fit as well or without...
Ive searched as far and wide as im capable so its time to ask here. I have the carbon ceramic option on my 23 5BW, and the front pads are terribly noisy at 5k Miles (they also are kind of grindy sounding or metal on metal sounding at super low speeds). Has anyone had any luck finding replacement...
...on a recent session? Not counting Spring Mountain this is my 5th track day.
Presently have 2.7 front and 1.7 rear camber, Porterfield brakepads and Castrol SRF brake fluid with stock tires. I tried slicks the following day.
When you get to the black flag from the accident, skip ahead to...
Coming back with a rare "I think I've got this one figured out" update. Hope this helps someone in the future.
My thought from July was correct - The Powerstop pads rattling in calipers over bumps.
I removed each front pads and applied an even coat of CRC Disc Brake Quiet across the entire...
