EV Thoughts Thread: cause the old farts did their usual thing

I've never been much hung up on wheel size. I downsized the 19s on my old WRX STI to 18s for comfort. Thank you for pointing that out. Yeah, I have seen it - which is why I want it. The showroom had two cars in it. One had the Santa Cruz interior; the other had the Zenith Red exterior...

EV Thoughts Thread: cause the old farts did their usual thing

Santa Cruz is what I want. I really like that interior. The one they have in inventory is Pure RWD with Santa Cruz in Zenith Red w/ Stealth. Has the 19s, which I prefer, and I would probably remove the aero covers as well. Only option package is Comfort and Convenience, which appears to...

EV Thoughts Thread: cause the old farts did their usual thing

I currently have 250/500/100 with a $1k deductible (and a $1 MM umbrella liability policy) through State Farm. Not the cheapest company out there, but I've been with them 40 years and they pay claims without much hassle. My agent quoted me $98/month to add the Pure RWD. Not too shabby...

EV Thoughts Thread: cause the old farts did their usual thing

I understand that Lucid has had Carplay for a while. Don't know how good the integration is; by most accounts software is not one of Lucid's strengths. No Android Auto as yet.

EV Thoughts Thread: cause the old farts did their usual thing

Hey, hey hey, my brethren. Reviving this thread. We got any Lucid owners here? I would be interested in hearing some opinions. This past weekend, a casual look at the Lucid Air became a test drive. I actually drove two: the Pure RWD (430 hp / 406 torques) and the Touring AWD (620 hp /...

    Media dumps

They've been doing this since Day 1, and it has never made sense. No M3 review ever written has talked about how much better it would be with the M5 engine. They just talked about how much better the M3 was than everything else in its class (until the 4BW came along). Yet EVERY 4BW review...

    Spring Mountain Track Times

Car: CT4 Auto Time of Year: late June AutoX best time: 2nd fastest in class; a CT5 beat me by 0.01 seconds. Roadcourse: East Bowl Best Lap Time: 1:25 Top Speed: 130 mph I have prior track experience, but it was long ago in a car with 201 fewer horsepower. I was tentative. Still...

Do you actually use the HUD?

The tach was useful on the track at Spring Mountain, for sure. For daily driving in the city I find the HUD distracting. Out on the open road I like it. I do like the "pared down" version of the sat nav that the HUD displays. I find it more intuitive to follow than the full blown version...

What did you do to your Blackwing today?

Replaced the rear tires this week. I decided I didn't want to mess with patching. The tires were already at least half-worn out, and if I ever get up the stones to track it I don't want to do that on a patched tire. Ordered 2 new TPC Spec rears off Tire Rack. They were mounted at Discount...

    Spring Mountain Impressions

I own a manual and intentionally booked an auto, simply because I wanted to experience it. IMHO, the auto-rev matching downshift really makes driving a manual kind of a non-event. And with modern autos having paddle shifters and lockup torque converters, well, the differences between auto...

What did you do to your Blackwing today?

Over the past week: 1) Hit 5,000 miles. Car was delivered 9 months ago today. 2) Realized I have a slow leak in my right rear. Imma try take the wheel off this weekend to see whether I find the problem. If I see a screw in a sketchy location I'll just order 2 new tires off Tire Rack...

    What did you trade?

Did the same. 2018 WRX STI Limited. Pic below is when I was actually trading it in at Sewell. The salesperson had already removed the plates when this was taken. No regrets.

    Spring Mountain Impressions

They used it a little when I was there last month. They showed us one or two corners from one session. It was an interesting tool. For me personally, following directly behind an instructor was better for finding the right line.

    CT4-V What Tires

I can believe it. Also factor in brake pads and the cost of putting on a track alignment and then converting it back to street alignment. Also that first diff fluid change. It adds up. My recollection from doing HPDE 16 years ago in an Evo VIII was that it was costing me about $600/weekend...

PSA that we have the ability to put posters on an ignore list. This guy is a troll. Trolls don't ruin forums; people responding to trolls do.

    Spring Mountain Impressions

We were on the "East Bowl". East track has two configurations: a longer one that bypasses the "bowl" section and a shorter one that goes through the "bowl". This was the shorter one. Yeah, the instructor did a 1:17 in my 4BW while chatting with me constantly.

    Spring Mountain Impressions

Did Spring Mountain on Monday and Tuesday. Struggling Mentally I had an absolute blast. I wasn't fast, though. I was decently quick within my run group and was running the line from the very start, but I was with total track noobs so that didn't mean anything. I was having trouble making...

    Spring Mountain Impressions

I'll be there next Monday and Tuesday. Daily highs in Pahrump are forecast to be 13 degrees and 19 degrees lower than here at home. With the bonus of humidity 20% lower. I'd buy that for a dollar!
