Engine power before 500 miles

Question on the 5 Blackwing during the 500 mile break in period is engine power reduced like the C8’s are?

I own a C8 and yes, the BW LT4 has the same first 500 limit as the Corvette.

I think I understand your question differently than the other replies. I do not think the "power" is not limited. On an auto, the RPMs are controlled to not exceed 4500. On a manual, the display shows red above 4500, but there is no computer control on it... you have to be diligent to shift in time. As for the power part, you likely are not running full throttle under 500 miles, so I am not sure it matters.

Correct - the 4500 red line is indicated on teh tach, but the rev limiter does not enforce it. Normal redline is 6500 isn't it ? When does the rev limited kick in normally (after break-in) ?

To be clear, that's only in first and second gears, and it's by 25-30% reduction in torque output. The reason GM did that was because of the enhanced traction the mid-engine design of the car gives the rear end of the car. That extra traction puts an increased load on the transaxle, which is why GM decided to slightly limit the torque in the first two gears.

The V doesn't have that problem as it's not mid-engined, and not using a transaxle.

Almost everyone is confusing the questions.

The C8 Corvette during break in has reduced Torque in the first two gears as well as the reduced redline. The OP is asking if the Blackwing also has reduced torque during break in like the C8 does not if it also has a reduced redline.

The answer is no, it does not have reduced torque. If you so choose, let her rip!

Technically that should be "you should not go over 4500" rpms. This is a soft limiter and you can in fact go beyond 4500 rpm

I understand but just to be devils advocate, if break in is 1,500 miles why should our tach change to 6,500 rpm’s at 500 miles? What message are they sending when the training wheels are taken off at 500 miles?

I believe that smarter people than me have mentioned that 500mi for normal spirited driving, but 1500 for track is recommended. (I know the manual just says 1500)

... and that it is more about brakes, tires, differentials, etc... than engine

Sometimes they dumb things down so people don't get frustrated. Good example: My 2001 M5 was the first car with the super cool (at the time) variable redline that started at 4k rpm when cold and gradually opened up to the 7k redline as the engine got warm. Trouble is, they linked it to water temp rather than oil temp, and once the full 7k was indicated, the oil temp was only a little off the "cold" peg. I always waited until oil temp was closer to operating.

That's not entirely true, since the manual specifically mentions different intervals for brakes, tires... Actually, there is no mention of 500 miles in the manual-only 1500 and to keep it under 4000 RPM for that time. The tach redline seems to be a reminder to take it easy and there is no limiting function of RPM. C8s have a power limiting function, but I know of none for the Caddy.
