2026 CT5-V Blackwing
With the announcement that the CT5 will continue and separately the new LS6, what are the odds we see an LS6-based Blackwing in the future? A manual transmission?

GM has made it abundantly clear there won't be a manual Corvette anytime soon but with the Blackwing showing a 50% take rate on the manual maybe it could live on? Of course the LT4 has more power than the LS6 so I wonder if they'll add turbos or supercharger for a Blackwing. Perhaps the base V will get NA and Blackwing get boosted.

Whatever variation they make of the LS6 to make it front engine compatible will surely mate to the existing Tremec 6mt. So yes, I assume there will be a manual LS6 type engine with manual if the blackwing is still made

Corvette Grand Sport X in a manual sedan package. Maybe with boost. Aligns competitively with BMW's strategy while having the 'driver's edge.' And more of a relationship to F1 dev as well.

I can't imagine they would be able/willing to do an electric motor along with a manual transmission for the gas engine. It's a completely separate propulsion system. With the auto/DCT the computer handles everything. I mean there's still sensors in the manual to know clutch and shifter position but it seems like it would be extremely difficult to tune that and put the right controls in place for it to be cohesive. They don't even ship the current manuals with adaptive cruise or remote start.

That would be wild if you can get a manual in a caddy but not a corvette

Yeah, as @AdamUCF mentioned, a hybrid/V8 + manual combination is virtually impossible due to the massive R&D costs.

What we will likely see is a manual transmission mated to a front-engine variant of LS6 - either NA flavor (CT5-V) or supercharged (Blackwing). That said, this is all speculation.

It'd be rad tho. After all, throttle's just an acceleration request. Not much different vs. flappy paddling, it's just with manual you're forcing an ICE gear vs. auto up/downshifts (flappy paddle overwrite).. The electric boost could be there only when you wring it out or lose traction or when cruising or at a low % elec vs. ICE .. Lots of ways to calibrate this (again, see F1).

The LS6 isn't a good fit for a Blackwing unless they make another variant and call it something else. 535hp is not going to be enough compared to the outgoing LT4 which makes 655hp. You can't add turbos or supercharger to the LS6 because it has 13:1 compression. It's highly unlikely that they will install a GSX AWD variation to a Blackwing. I suspect if anything, we will some other variant of the LS6 called something else most likely with a supercharger or twin turbos. Manual transmission is possible though since it was such a popular option for the current gen CT5 BW.

I dunno. The only cars using the Tremec TR6060 at the moment are the CT5 and CT4-V Blackwings. This wasn't the case when the cars were launched though. Dodge was selling a bunch of Chargers, and Chevy was selling a lot of Camaros. The CT4 is going away and that leaves only the CT5 or whatever variant the new sedan will be which, even though we're all together here on this forum, isn't a high volume car to begin with. I wouldn't hold my breath for a manual...or at least a Tremec one unless some kind of high-volume GM sister car comes along. I mean...if Porsche and BMW are trying to kill the manual transmission...

Though the sentiment is accurate take rate for manuals on CT4/5s is high. C7s were only 20-25% which GM claims was based on demand. We'll never know if that's actuality or if it was their preference (follow the money, always) or possibly both. TR-6060 is a solid trans with excellent feel so hopefully it sticks around regardless if it's on a GM platform or not.
