A10 4 or 5BW Owners, how do ya really feel!

Had a chance to watch the "yacht" of a beautiful car which is the Escalade Vee in real time. Has an A10 attached to the 6.2L with the bigger charger and it really hauls ass (in style)! My impression, that full sized Luxury SUV with pump gas power is pricey but special to the folks that will buy it, and they will buy it Im sure!!! Also!!! it has the ability to transfer (power) via the A10. I was completely impressed with that fact, the tranny's delivery of power seamlessly for such a "big" car. What do you folks think about the A10? M6 folks, I'm on boths sides and with you as well and that's Ok with me but I love the A10 (and the M6) just not for me.

I only have one experience with the A10 and that's a Camaro SS I test drove and it personally wasn't for me. I felt like it was hunting gears too much and the paddles weren't as responsive as I would have liked. I'm sure it's smooth when you want it to be and quick if your foot is flat. But for the spirted, somewhat legal, drive it didn't feel up to par.

But I'm interested to hear what people who own it think since that was just a quick 10-15 minute test drive on crappy roads and some traffic on the way back
 
Impressed with the response of the A10 on the Escky Vee, my 5BW paddles are as quick as anything I have had an opportunity to either shift manually (back in the day) or paddle recently. The A10 may be under appreciated, I guess, with the thought of what a manual means in Caddy BW's, Im respectful of both abilities to deliver "it's" worth. Easily.

Not sure why? Mine is ready before I hit the paddles and reacts easy to the shift?

PS: Traffic sucks ass here and the "clutch" back and forth takes the joy out of it for me.

it's usually the same complaint from me, upshifts are fine, downshifts take a full second before it responds to the paddle. Maybe because I'm not on the brake? but I don't always brake to downshift, sometimes I'm just coasting waiting for an opportunity to downshift and make a pass.

Limited experience with the A10 but I feel it in most autos, including my current one (ZF8).
 
The A10 is an excellent torque converter based transmission. Shifts are quick, always in the right gear, etc. IMO, it has too many gears to really enjoy the paddle shifting and the computer will do a better job anyway.

The real question you should be asking yourself is whether the A10 will provide enough driving engagement. If you deal with lots of traffic that will sap the fun out of rowing your own gears then that that may be a valid reason but if not I would get the M6 for the fun factor. Another side benefit is the M6 is about $3k less expensive.

I recently traded my ZL1 with A10 for a 4BW with a M6 and enjoy the 4BW much more. The Tremec M6 is fantastic and the clutch is light. Considering a manual transmission like this will not be around much longer I felt it was too good to pass up. You can always find an automatic or even a performance EV that doesn't even need a slow transmission. :)

Don’t worry, soon Blackwings will be electric, then all the transmission choice and oil change threads will be a thing of the past. :)
 
A10 isnt bad it was better than my old s3 and probably on par with my brothers golf r with dsg tune. It was better than 5.0 s550 mustang auto.
I personally prefer manual and the only thing better than my c5 corvette (short shifter) is the c7 feel. But the auto here does well

It's not the number of gears that limits you, it's the number of pedals. ;)

I appreciate both transmissions and the A10 is a good one however I would not think of a manual transmission as some sort of handicap unless you were trying to put down the best lap times. For me, the manual transmission offers a deeper connection to the driving experience and will always choose it in a performance focused drivers car.

That said, for a daily driver I would much rather drive my Tesla than a vehicle with a traditional automatic. There is just no comparison to the smooth instant torque of an EV vs. waiting on downshifts/upshifts of even the fastest automatics.
