I was told by America's Tire that they couldn't perform an alignment on my car because it requires a reset with a tool that is OEM only and that I had to go to the dealer. I'm pretty sure that I've read about others on the forum who have had alignments performed outside of a dealer. Experiences?

I take all of my cars to Firestone in more affluent areas only and buy their lifetime alignment package. They have the latest Hunter equipment and if you track your car it's great to change alignment before and after sessions basically for free (after your second alignment the deal pays for itself). Just check online reviews for your specific Firestone as some used to be mediocre as I recall.

I hope you are not expecting a real "free" alignment. Sure, they will "align" it and give you paperwork showing it all in spec.
Yes, I do. I can give them my own preferred specs and they will do it every time. Keep in mind, the lifetime package has no usage limits so you could go daily if you were crazy enough. I've measured camber with my own equipment from time to time before hitting the track and their settings are accurate.
