I just got my 4BW and am looking at hardwiring a Uniden R4 and dashcam. I'm trying to get the fuse panel off. I was able to get the two front clips loose, but nothing. I feel like I'm going to break something if apply any more pressure. Is there a trick to get it off?

I can see that the top clip is stuck. Not sure what to do with it. You can see the fatigue on the plastic as I try to pry it out.

I was able to get it free. I ended up using WD40 to loosen the top clip. There are 3 total clips. The 2 plastic clips came out normal, but the third is metal.

Which fuse locations did you end up using for the tap?

On my 25 4BW, I'm not finding any ACC/switched fuses locations. They all seem to be 12V all the time. Did anyone find a switched fuses location in the fuse box near the driver?

I couldn't find an ACC switch. I did find some that are Ignition only. I used one of those for the Radar Detector.

Which I believe is the correct circuit. I can still remember the first time I hardwired a radar detector; sitting in the parking lot listening to the radio, eating a burger, and listening to the detector go off...

Exactly. No need to hear the radar detector when not moving.

I don't remember the fuse number off of the top of my head.

i went ahead and checked. I tapped into F30 which will power on with ACC

Thank you. I can concur with others- that top clip is holding on for dear life and does not want to let go.

These two empty positions can be use for ACC. I use one for my radar detector and laser jammer and the other for the dashcam system I installed on Saturday. Made my own fuse tap. There is normally a second blue fuse to the right of the red circles but it is removed for this photo.

How did you create the fuse tap? How do you know it works?

I just used an X-Acto type knife to cut the plastic off the end and solder on a lead. I know it works in the same way I know a lamp works in my house, because all my electronics power on expected.

But car people like to do things themselves just for the satisfaction. :)
I have a lot of different equipment and tools purchased over many decades. I have many tools that I use once in a blue moon. But when I need that tool there’s no substitute for it.

Making a fuse tap is very quick and all the supplies and tools are right at my fingertips. I can make a fuse tap faster than I can find an overpriced one on Amazon.

My probem is good old fashioned bullheadedness. I should take my car in for, say, an oil change. nope. I'll jack, crawl under, soil some clothes and wrassle it my way, for 3 hours.
I shoud take my car in to have it professionally detailed. nope. 10-15 hours plus. with a toothbrush.
Inner voice taking "I should sell those two cars" and get on with it. nope.
Dental work? no problem...

In all honestly I'm super rural and its an hour plus to get some work done. Im a city person but living in the sticks. Works though.

If it takes you three hours for an oil change... maybe you're using the wrong oil? Or maybe you should invest in some service manuals?

10-15 hours to wash the car- that's about right if you're in a hurry.
