2023 CT5-V Blackwing, 2013 CTS-V
I am getting close to renewal time on my policies and just wanted to ask around to see who my fellow Blackwing owners utilize for insurance and what their experiences have been like since I haven't done any major shopping around in the last 6-7 years. I have the Blackwing on a single-vehicle policy with OpenRoad, but for the majority of my vehicles (including my 2013 CTS-V), I have them on a Grundy Multi-Vehicle Policy (MVP) which requires at least one daily driver-type vehicle being on the policy.

But I am having growing concerns staying with them after reading more deeply into their coverage and how restrictive it seems to be as well as their response to wanting to add my Blackwing to my current policy - they refused to classify the Blackwing as a specialty/collector vehicle despite its limited nature and would only insure it as a general-use vehicle at 2x-3x what a specialty vehicle policy would run. When I mentioned the limited nature of these vehicles, their verbatim response was:

"While the vehicle is limited, it has 4 doors and is not a show vehicle. Just a very nice sedan, its also too new to be a collector."

Which, understandably, rubbed me the wrong way - especially considering they already insure my CTS-V as a specialty vehicle which, while I'm not great at math, also appears to have 4 doors.

I'd really love to have all of my vehicles - daily use and specialty - under one policy with an annual renewal basis. Who are you all using and what are your experiences?

Neither the BW nor the CTS-V is a specialty/collector vehicle and wouldn't be for some time still. Not sure how you got them to classify the CTS-V as such. Perhaps because its out of production.
I am basically switching insurance (home and auto) insurance providers once a year as I am getting significant annual increases and being forced to shop around. Bouncing between Geico, Travelers, Liberty Mutual and State Farm. Others have not been competitive.

Erie is one of 3-4 companies which has a new oem part rider. Rest try to use used or aftermarket parts.

I have our home and auto with an independent insurance company. When renewal comes along, if the rates go up too much, I call them and tell them to "shop".

Last year, the rates were so wacked out, it was cheaper to use one company for auto and a different one for home. I found that very odd, but they showed me the quotes. We're due for HO renewal next month. That should be exciting as HO rates here in AZ are going thru the roof due to "wildfire danger".

Oh, and I contacted Grundy over a year ago, maybe two. They told me the same thing....BW doesn't qualify as a "collector"

I do the same thing. Every now and then the independent insurance agent puts my policy out to bid. Last time they came back with progressive for my auto and someone else for my home and umbrella. I found it strange that all the commercials about bundling with progressive didn’t apply to me as they weren’t the cheapest.

@ernsteeng .......yes, me too. Progressive for cars and AutoOwners for home. First time I think ever, bundling wasn't cheaper.

Heh, I just added it to my State Farm policy! I looked at Hagerty, but to get a good policy was very expensive. Maybe in the future.

We have the BW on our standard State Farm policy, about $200/mo in TX, with 3 other vehicles (200 for the BW, not total). At the end of the day, "the vehicle is limited, but it's just a nice sedan" about sums it up, plus we drive ours a fairly decent amount, so any any special policies are out the door.

LOL..."it has 4 doors"... If you keep reading the fine print, you'll see that they will automatically cover your entire fleet if you have a Z06, 2+ pairs of white New Balance sneakers, and only wear Jorts and Goodguys tee shirts in the summer.

Interesting, I also use an independent insurance agent for home an auto as overall has seemed to net me the best rates & always great service.

For the auto, I’m on Progressive, for the last several years and my agent handles everything. He provides better rates than I ever got direct. He got me a better deal when I bundled my auto & umbrella policies from Progressive… annual rates for both dropped a little. I pay annually in full for the best deal.

I have mine with Grundy. I have both GTO's and a Monza, along with the Caddy. No issues when I bought it and called them. I originally had it at $90K value and have come down every time it's up for renewal. My daily is a Cruze and it's with Farm Bureau.

I think I talked to Grundy a year ago or so. The will insure the Blackwing, BUT you have to have some other "collector" car. And, if so, they will also insure your other cars too. We never got into prices.

Interesting, because I have 12 total vehicles on my policy (9 collector/3 daily use) and what they told me was that I'd have to have a daily driver that is newer than the collector car being insured to even think about qualifying before telling me the BW wouldn't qualify anyway as it's too new. Seems like they're a little loose with their standards.

@CSX ...when I talked to them, they seemed very confused about the whole thing. Like I said, I think it was probably two years ago.
