Has anyone tuned their A10 transmission?

Curious is anyone has tuned their A10 transmissions in their 5BW. I just purchased one that has a built engine and I’m considering the transmission tune from Tapout. They originally tuned the engine and it’s great, but I’m wondering what the benefit of a tuned transmission would be. I don’t drag race the car, but I would prefer some smoother downshifts when coming to a stop light sometimes. I’ve noticed that the car will be smooth all the way down to third gear, but the downshift to second and first cause a stumble sometimes and is a bit rough. I plan to take the car back to Ohio in the coming weeks to have it retuned now that it has additional parts added since the last tune(LMP heat exchanger, 30% fuel injectors). Car made 875hp on the flex fuel tune with the mods listed in the YouTube thread when it was built last February.

Obviously a much different car and transmission but my Livernois tune I added to my SS absolutely woke her up. My SS was an A6 and would chirp into 2nd any time I wanted and once in a while 3rd would too. Not sure how much performance was enhanced but definitely felt faster with those hard shifts.

I have a manual, but this is one of the few instances of auto trans tuning that doesn't involve the ZF8. Following for curiosity.

My guess is if Tapout tuned the car the trans was part of the tune to some degree. I had my CT4 Blackwing tuned by tapout and I noticed the shifts right away

They didn’t tune the TCM, only the engine when they had the car. I’m interested in what you noticed differently in your car with the tune in the TCM? I’ve never been inside a 4BW before, so I’m assuming it’s got multiple driving modes like the 5BW(v mode, sport, track, tour, etc). Did you notice a change in all of the modes? What’s different about it?

Am I reading this right? You added fuel injectors without tuning? Some people shouldn't touch cars. There's too many reputable LS/LT performance shops. Go to a different one.

The fact that this made 875 rwhp to begin with and is on a stock TCM tune is telling. I had an 800 rwhp '17 ZL1 with, obviously, the same motor/trans. It had the TCM tuned. Leaving it on stock tune is a fool's game.

Did you check with Scott and verified if they tuned the trans or not? Honestly kinda dumb not to if the previous owner is just being cheap. You're really leaving alot on the table without trans tuning with a modified engine.

TCM tuning is not necessary even though there is some performance to be gained, but ECU tuning is necessary for these mods. This car had the ECU tuned obviously, but not the TCM. Biggest benefit to TCM tuning is raised shift points if the car has a cam, increased line pressure to firm up shifts, auto up-shift when in manual mode at redline, and some cars see some benefit from torque management at this power level.

Driving on aftermarket fuel injectors without being tuned for them is a good idea then? Go WOT and let's see what happens.

Firmed up shifts aren't necessary on a car making 200+ RWHP over stock?

Again, there are too many reputable LS/LT tuners. They're all over the US. Choose your flavor and stick with them.

You completely misread what I said, the car had already been tuned for the mods that it had when it left Tapout Tuning. The car needs to be tuned AGAIN for larger injectors and TCM tuning is recommended. Firmer shifts aren't necessary even at that power level but highly recommended. It's like you didn't even read anything I posted and just regurgitated your original post again.

And for the record, @WONT TAP "Tapout Tuning" is a top tuner for these cars.

Thanks Blkout! You beat me to it! Say it a little louder for the internet gangsters in the back! Lol!

I trust Tapout tuning for sure which is why I pressed go on this car. The work done has been top notch and the car makes serious power. I’m just looking for a little firmer shifts as mentioned before and a little clean up of the ECM tune now that the injectors are different. The guy above just wanted to be all in the koolaid without knowing the flavor. Been WOT many times and all I’ve seen is my eyeballs pinned to the back of my skull. This thing rips. 🤘🏾

No. You’re not reading it right. The engine has been tuned, twice actually. Scott did a remote tune for the original owner after the dyno tune the first time, I’m just not sure of the mods list when it was remotely tuned the second time. The transmission has never been tuned, which is why the thread was originated the way I wrote it. Maybe slow down a little turbo, and reread it from the top. Might help you not embarrass yourself. 🤦🏾‍♂️

I emailed Scott, and he confirmed that the trans was left out on the original dyno tuning. I agree that it’s silly that the previous owner spent all this money on the engine alone, only to skimp out a couple grand to get the transmission worked over as well. That said, the build is phenomenal and the car is solid.

I’m new to this platform, coming from the hellcat community and all of those being manual cars. This is the first time I’ve had a built car with an automatic and I think you’re absolutely right; with proper shift logic this car has plenty more in it. I’ll definitely be getting this done with Tapout in the coming weeks once work slows down.
