I took my 2022 CT5 BW to my local mechanic for an inspection. My car only has 6400 miles on her. The mechanic did the inspection and then tells me that I need brakes. Is it possible for my car to need brakes with such low miles. I don't have the carbon ceramic brakes. He made the comment, that they wear quicker on these type of cars because of how the drivers "beat" on them. First of all, I don't "beat" on my car and I think he was just trying to upsell me on brake pads. **** When it is time for brake pads, are the GM stock pads any good or should I look for something better ? Thanks.

Rotors and pads? Or just pads? Do you have pics of both?

Sounds like a money grab from someone who is using the car as a benchmark for how much money he can get out of you.

I can't imagine the need for brakes based on your car's history.

Can’t u just look through your rum and see pad thickness. Mine is at 5k and no way I need new pads.

Here are some photos I took of the front right and rear right. Let me know. I think they still have alot of meat on the rears. The fronts show more wear, but that is normal.

Agree with previous comments by others, unless you track & you don’t, you should not need rear pads at 6400 miles.

The pictures you posted look like lots of pad life left.

You need to confront him & discuss or find a new go to mechanic, IMO.

If you have the capability to jack up and remove the wheel(s) and have some calipers, you could check the current thickness against specs on new pads.

I only use this guy for my inspections. Pretty sure he wanted to get some unnecessary work because his 3 bay garage was empty when I pulled in. My usual mechanic is awesome, but he couldn't get me inspected for a week. The reason being, is that he is so good , honest and nicely priced.....he is constantly busy. In NY, an inspection goes for $37 bucks. They only make a small percentage of the money and shady mechanics will try and find anything to make a buck.

A decent mechanic will measure the brake pad thickness and tell you exactly how much is left and not just say “they look worn”.

Also, there are wear sensors. So unless that warning has triggered then they are not in need of replacement (if all you do is street driving).

Well, there is your answer then. Inspection done, carry on with your day.

Look into your manual and follow the guidelines and service manuals. Try to get multiple inspections and try to use your local Cadillac dealer or General motor company or Chevrolet dealer. If there's a consistency on everyone's inspection and answers, that may possibly hold better truth.

You don’t need new pads till the wire that shorts out the circuit gets worn through, and a light on your dash tells you to service the brakes. That’s what the wear sensor is for, use it. Even when it goes off you have pad left to drive a bit more. People change pads too soon. Unless your doing a big weekend at the track, don’t change till the sensor trips
