I feel stupid asking this question cause I consider myself a car guy and should know an answer to probably a simple car question.

I’ll be needing new brake pads and rotors soon - can anyone please tell me if I need special rotors to run ceramic brake pads? Or will stock rotors be fine? Also was wondering, would I need to change the calipers to run ceramics?

Please share what brand ceramic brake pads and rotors you all have and/or recommend using. I was thinking Windhammer or Redstuff for the brake pads and GiroDisc 2 for the rotors. Sorry for the dumb questions. Thanks for all your inputs.

I did a quick search and I found out that if you're going to install ceramic brake pads then you will need to make sure that the cast iron rotors are in good condition.

It doesn't hurt to get a full ceramic brake pad kit and I've heard good things about gyro disc but haven't tried them personally but this is from my reading up on previous forums.

I'm running ceramic pads on my iron rotors with no problems. The page above has a list of aftermarket pads that fit the 5bw.

Thanks for your insights! I did get some clarity from Marcmac and he’s using iron rotors with Ceramic pads. Might end up doing the same, but will continue to do research and also hear from others within community. Thanks again.

Gotcha! Thanks man. You having no issues running ceramics on iron rotors, do you think it’s worth the extra cost on getting ceramic rotors? I daily my 4BW, but drive aggressively lol. Is there a significant difference between iron rotors and ceramic rotors to justify the price difference?

Nice! Yeah it’s crazy how filthy my wheels get from daily driving it from all the brake dust. Definitely might go with the Ceramic Brake pads because of that. Now I’m debating whether to stick with iron rotors or switching to carbon ceramic rotors. Thanks again for your inputs.

There'll be a significant difference in price. Personally, I wouldn't switch to carbon ceramic rotors on a car that wasn't originally equipped with them. Nor would I use ceramic brake pads in a high performance vehicle application. But, that's just me. As others have stated, get with Ken and he'll let you know what all of your options are in regard to brakes for your car.

As you and others here have mentioned, I checked out the KNS website and appreciated a brief breakdown description of the pads and also liked how simple and easy it was to browse around the list of brake parts.

Also going from considering Redstuff/OEM to XP12 is quite a jump. Those pads aren't even in the same realm. What moved you to go that route?

Yup, I’m passing on carbon ceramic for sure. Just the process on getting it retrofitted and the $$$ already sounds like a headache lol.
