Blackwing Maintenance Regimen

I gotta know what makes this filter a knock off? My filter looks identical to it. What makes you think its a knock off??
Not my photo. But similar to what I received. On the left is a store bought filter. On the right is what was sent by Amazon.

I just checked the filters I have in the garage. I have a PF64 from Amazon and a PF63 for a Yukon XL and both have the same look as the PF64 on the right hand side. My guess is the design changed. You have two different part numbers there as well so that only helps to support the hypothesis that ACDelco updated the end cap design.

Yeah those two filters are real GM filters just the one on the right is updated. When I did my oil change I removed the factory filter and it looked just like the one on the right

I am going with the upgraded UPF63R oil filter that TAPOUT recommends. For oil, I've always been a Mobil guy, but have heard good things about Liquimoli. This meets Dexos 1 gen 3 and is fancy. what do y'all think?

LS6-M22 is correct and recently another new part # will surface when typing either of the two others - 25206377
Many things lead to changes thus new parts #’s, such as different supplier, product changes, global packaging, etc.

Reviving this thread. I know for the oil filters, Tapout tuning recommends the upgraded UPF63R, and the manual just calls out for the PF63. I thought the UPF63R oil filter was for increased flow and filtration, but I see the PF63 has more flow holes than the UPF63R when I was doing the oil change... anyone know why?

I got overwhelmed by the number of PF64 part numbers there were online, so I just upgraded to the UPF64 from tapout's website. Since then, the oil pressure has been within a couple psi of what it was with the standard PF64 filter recommended by the manual.

The upgraded filter seems more robust for sure in a side by side comparison --- my 74mm 15 flute socket that removes the PF64 does NOT fit the larger outer shell of the upgraded UPF64 model. Changing the oil & filter on a 4BW is very easy, I recommend that any curious owner give it a try.

For oil, I like to run Mobil1 Extended Performance 5W-30 dexos1 gen3 and change it every 4-5k miles. I buy 3x 5QT jugs from my local walmart, and a box of 6x 1QT jugs from amazon. It gets me 3 oil changes worth of oil, and it makes it very difficult to put the wrong amount of oil in the car (just add one large one, then two 1qt jugs)

I am glad we have an oil thread for the 4BW. Would also love to see how some guys are doing their diffs and transmission fluid swaps!!

I wimped out and had the dealer do it. I wanted it done at 10k miles and when the mileage hit I was swamped with life stuff. I want to do it again at 30k miles so I am hoping to figure it out by then :)
