Blackwing Child Car Seat Fitment

I was looking at getting either a CT4V BW or a CT5 BW and was wondering if folks had any experience with infant and rear facing car seats in them. I was able to check out a 4VBW today at Carmax and the carseat fitment was a bit tight. I'm guessing the 5BW is a bit better, but was wondering if folks here had first hand experience using their BW as a kid hauler.
Is there a measureable difference in rear seat room between the various tiers of seats?

I would recommend getting a larger vehicle than a ct5v blackwing, but no less than the ct5. I would spend similar money and get an Escalade but that's just me. I've been through my share of compacts and having three kids. Better to be more comfortable if possible.

I don't think I can go larger than a CT5 and I want some row your own fun hence the BWs. Otherwise I would consider an e63 AMG wagon or RS6 Avant.
I figure for one kid a car like the CT5 should be more than enough (I've seen folks do just fine in something like a Civic Type R), but if feels like the CT4 just won't fit what's needed for longer trips. Would love to hear if I'm wrong there though.
I grew up in an sedan Deville so I figure the CT5 should be about right.

Last week I installed my 2nd rear facing car seat. With this mod, my Blackwing is complete.

Hi there. I have a 1 year old in a rear facing seat, I am 6’ 4” and my wife is a foot shorter than me. In the current gen 3 series and 4 series gran coupe she was cramped with the rear facing behind her. Even in the X3 too. I tried the 4BW as well and it was just as tight for space.

The 5BW frankly is a jack of all trades buy it before you can’t again car for me. It’s roomy, big trunk, comfortable when I want it to be and on rails when I need it to be. I cross shopped the RS6 which was functional and fast but kinda boring without a manual. Same with the Panamera Turbo and Turbo Sport...

+1 for 5BW and dual car seats. I have one forward facing and one rear facing. My only gripe is that my older daughter, 3 yo, likes to kick the back of my seat. We were able to fit them and all of their Xmas gifts from the grandparents this past December. Stroller fits as well when you don’t have a dollhouse or two in the trunk.

I had a RS6 wagon before the 5BW and I’m so happy to have a stick again in a powerful car. The trunk is fairly big in the 5BW and can get you around town with the family no problem. We have a Yukon XL for road trips and I drive a Taco for carrying junk or bad...

Also, you can find a dealer with any ct5 (measurements are basically the same) and bring your car seats to try the fit yourself (I did that before buying my SS sedan and Audi S6... didn't need to by the time I got my 5bw b/c I was towards the end of my last child being a car seat, so I put it forward facing on the passenger side behind my wife without issue)

When you're dealing with rear facing seats the fore and aft of a backseat is really important. It's quite amazing how hard it can be to get car seats in correctly if you're tall. I had a VW Golf R and got 3 kids across and 2 were rear facing. That car had about the same space as a Ct4, but was better for that than the CT4 is due to the how much the wheel wells come into the back seat area.

1 car seat rear facing in a CT4 will be fine on the passenger side with seat moved forward. A passenger will be fine, but might be a little tight if they aren't short. If you have to do 2 rear facing toddler seats then it is going to be hard in a ct4, but doable if you're good with car seat fitments. Infant seats are a lot smaller than rear facing toddler seats if you didn't know.

In my experience Diono makes very good seats that don't take up too much room side to side or fore and aft.

It was a PITA to remove and reinstall the seats in the golf and while possible I now find myself wanting a bigger car to avoid that hassle. If you have 1 or 2 kids then car seat fitment is not too big of a deal.

I have one of the largest car seats on the market because it's swivels 360° for easy in and out. It fits just fine in my 5BW

I have a rear facing convertible on the passenger side rear of my 4, and a front facing toddler-booster behind the driver's seat. It's tight but the front passenger seat is still usable, as is (obviously) the driver seat.

It works for day-to-day, but we also have an SUV which we use when we need more space. I would not have the blackwing as my only car, just because of all the stuff kids require particularly when travelling.

Same height and family size here. CT4 won't work. I'm surprised you say the CT4 was only a bit tight. It was a total showstopper for us.

Rear facing in a CT4 here. Seat is behind driver. Fitment is snug but I am able to use the driver seat exit memory to stop just before contact with the seat. The car seat is a Graco Extend2fit. Works fine for us, but agree with above, if the 5 is in budget, get the extra space.

Thanks for the replies y'all. I'm 5' 10". We test fit a infant car seat and it had like 2 fingers of space so an toddler seat might be a bit tough. I think I'll have to go with the 5 if I want to do any sort of road trips (SF to LA and such). Now I need to go find one with a MT and the bucket seats to make sure my wife is happy with it.

Check out the RS6 Avant that you mentioned, if you can. Should have much more space and versatility. I still think the ct5 v Black Wing is a tight fit with car seats. You can do it but there are better cars for the job. Check out a performance suv if you can. So many great cars out there with so much more space. Some of them can have great power and be fun to drive as well.
