i found a local dealer that says he has a 2026 allocation for me. They said it might be 2-6 months. not sure how Cadillac ordering system works, can someone tell me what paper work i should get from dealer confirming order.

Get a printout or PDF from GM workbench showing your order as status 1100 (order entered into the system by the sales manager) and then 2000 (order accepted by GM - allocation used).

It'll look something like this:

Then the goat rodeo begins. Here's all the other status codes as your order slowly moves to completion:

thank you i just got off the phone with the sales person i said i can come in and get the order processed however now there is not a allocation but they would be happy to put in a spec car they have coming in that i dont want. I over the last 2 weeks contacted every dealer within 300 miles by phone text email, make america great again my butt! the level of unprofessionalisum is boggling to my mind really. Id like to get a car in chicagoland just in case there is amajor engine issue just seems to make sense gotta be close to 10 dealers within 50 miles. ANYONE HAVE A NAME I CAN CONTACT TO GET MY ORDER IN WOULD BE APPRECIATTED

So, the Dealer told you today that the allocation had been used up... when exactly did they tell you an allocation was available?

Incompetency of most Cadillac dealers treating a BW order likes it’s an XT6 (no offense- good car) is the unfortunate truth. I have a thread here somewhere of my experience trying to order a ‘25. Thank goodness I found my CPO ‘24 and hopped off the 🐐 rodeo before too long. If I was going to order one now, I’d go through Dustin over at Sewell Cadillac as many have nothing but great things to say about the experience.

it just a bunch of bs. Call dealership get a sales person, say i wont waste your time please dont waste mine. I want to order a 2026 BW , i ask how long you been selling cars she sales 9 montths. I say go to the sales manager ask if there is a allocation be specific say this guy is not wasting your time. Tell him i dont want to be baited and switched i want what i want. She gets it? Calls me back 1 hour later we have a allocation! i say ill be in tomorrow ( yesterday ) i call her to make a appointment and ask to make sure the allocation is availble to me. She text me back to a link for a automatioic in silver coming in shortly and that it seems there is no allocation availble. It has been painful i have been to 4 dealers and have been dicked around like i was buying a used car that was 20 years old that i needed a co signer for that they would have to fiance for me. Someone help me please

Your starting to sound like a problem, a Dealer can pick up on this.

If you dont have a relationship with a Dealer, and if youre not dealing directly with the sales or general manager then youre wasting your time.

Additionally, no Dealer will have an allocation just sitting. You either have to wait for one or call one of the the larger out of state dealers that get batches of allocations.

This will not be played according to your rules, thats for sure.

I think you might have unrealistic expectations for how this is going to go. If you're task oriented (or have a sense of entitlement) you're in for a rough ride. You can put an order in any Cadillac dealer, but most "orders" are unlikely to get served an allocation by GM. The dealers know this, so you're probably sensing their apathy.

They want to move metal that is sitting on the lot/incoming, its what dealers do, so I'd let go of any notion that they give two shits about what you want. By the way, any Cadillac dealer can do service/warranty, it's not like your car can only be serviced by the selling dealer.

You can setup your options on the Cadillac website and share that build code with your salesperson. That eliminates the need to physically go in and sit with them.

Allocations are distributed to dealers on Thursday every week and they have maybe 48 hours to turn that allocation into an order. You need to have a preliminary order placed with a dealer in GM workbench at status 1100 BEFORE Thursday. Otherwise you risk losing the allocation. You also need to make sure you aren't waiting behind anyone else at the dealership who may have an order in before you.

And to echo the point from Dnutz- you need to not be a pushy customer. The entire buying experience at GM is designed to push you into buying something off the lot. From the system itself to how the sales staff is trained. You just need to calmly and clearly make it clear you want a custom order.

Well guys I am older and all thou I lower my expectations to dog shit. I would think or was thinking. Hey dealership I know what I want I am willing to wait you can check the box and ring up a sale and the world keeps spinning It seems like it to me the simplest things have become troublesome. No entitlement just a straight up business deal. I understand what you wrote and going to try to getter done

Hey bud, I found this old document that shows various dealers and allocations they were getting. IMO this is key when placing an order etc, the more allocations a dealer gets the better your chances become. The key is asking if they have a wait list and if so where would you fall on that list.

FYI- I had deposits in at 3 dealers, 2 of them were out of state, and my local dealer is the one that came through for me. They also happened to be one of the largest V dealers in NY

Good luck!

(Dealer allocations 02-22-2022)

That one is interesting but it doesn't specify a time period. Maybe it's MY22 through 22 February, 2022?

The thread that pdf comes from also has this pdf:
Is this what you were looking for? It only tracks the CT5 V Blackwing Models
(V Registry 11-07-2022 revised)

If you page down it shows allocations for 2022 (full year?) and 2023 (partial year?)

When I add up the Sewell, TX dealerships for 2022 I get 96/1507!

Again, I know you may not intend it but even in this response you come across as a dick.

If you expect to get an allocation in the next few months, it wont happen. You can only hope to work with a professional Dealership whos very familiar with the Blackwing product, and place an order with them. Then you have a decent chance to get a 26 or 27 in the next two years. Anything else youll be grabbing from the used market.

GM is the rodeo owner, we are merely contestants that volunteer to participate. The best possible outcome is coming out without having months of appointments with Dr. Zoomie.

Dick? you dont know me. I went to 4 dealers made a dozen phone calls played no games. I reached out to this forum becuase i was against the wall trying to figure out the BS i have been going thru. I got some great information. from you all Knowledge is king I will figure it out. Back to you thinking i might be a dick. I refuse for the dumbing down of our great country to go thru me. I have a base line a minimum of how business people should conduct themselves or i move on. On a personal note i think us humans should be nicer to one another exspecially when looking for help. I am sure you will want the final word but i am done with you Mr. Seasoned Member and i will say this the best i can ( with knowing we both like great cars ) you can scratch my behind!

You mustve missed something in my response. Coming "across as" and "being" are two different things. I only know you based on what you have written here, so thats what Im going by.

It also appears like you have very little to no experience purchasing a rare/limited car. You can call every Dealer, many of them cant get you a car and the ones that can may simply choose not to deal with you. You need to work with them, not the other way around. Now if you have a more generalized problem with the entire car industry then thats your issue.

I am on my second, delivered blackwing order... this is in a country that gets 1/100 the allocations that the US gets. Difference is, I know how to play the game.

Most salespeople have zero idea of how allocation and ordering works. They don't order cars, they sell them. If dealerships were smart they would have at least one sales person that is knowledgeable of the process and has access to the GM dealer portals to look up information but alas. For most dealers custom ordering cars is pretty rare and custom ordering production constrained cars is even more rare. The corvette guys have been at this game many times so that's why that community has more resources and information around it.

I don't think customers should have to play these games. You're spending six figures on a vehicle. They should want your business. But I think they'd rather not deal with annoying customers constantly wanting to know allocation and order status and would rather just sell stuff off their lot. GM really should support customers directly better but the dealer lobby wants to be the only interaction with customers so here we are.

I think dealers often see allocation information as proprietary so they're reluctant to hand it out. I'm going through this myself and trying to figure out how to see if the dealer I've got an order in with can give me their allocation forecast but it's been difficult. Right now they're giving me no real idea of when to expect allocation. Could be this week or 6 months. Frustrating.

Mild counterpoint: Not all dealerships are as bad as the horror stories I've read here.

I didn't know much about this whole process when I started down the road to buy my 5BW. I must have lucked out and dealt with a salesman who at least was aware of what he didn't know. After a little bit of conversation he fairly quickly and professionally said, hey, let me introduce you to our general manager because he'd have a better idea about whether we expect to get any of those. The GM did know about allocations, and said I'd be in a good position to get one given their allocation expectations and my place in line there (and it worked out that way).

I think more salesmen should take this approach, realizing when they are in over their head with a certain type of customer looking for a particular car. FWIW, this dealer family also has a Chevy franchise next door, so they were used to Corvette allocations at the time (when I initially said there was only one car I was looking at, they first assumed I was asking about a Corvette!). And that family of dealers has a Porsche dealership next door to that, same story.

Advice: If the salesman at the dealership does not know about allocations, ordering, etc. then the customer should directly and politely ask to speak to someone who does. If nobody knows how to answer those questions, then go to another dealership.

In another bit of luck, I happened to be in the dealership in August 2021. For those who don't remember, that was *after* the initial batch of reservations had already long been spoken for, with people like @Tall Steve ordering something like 7 Blackwings, leaving none for the rest of us. ;) But this was before we (or at least I) had any idea when the order banks would open again. Turns out, I walked in not too long after the order banks had re-opened, so I was in the right place at the right time. Welcome to the goat rodeo. Car was built in January 2022, aged in the snow for 5.5 months, then finally shipped to me in July.

One thing I forgot to add: When I did order the car, they put me with a different salesman, familiar with the Blackwing, and we went through all the options and I ordered what I wanted. He knew what he was doing, was familiar with the process. This dealership put me with the right people at the right time, didn't try to push what I didn't want.
