Used Value Trend

Im curious why you argue options don't matter above and then specifically say here they do? So obviously they do matter at the right place and time.
I would also say mileage while still a factor is no where near the import that it once held. Cars, trucks seemingly moreso from my experience, are seeing higher and higher mileage without a diminishment in useablity or reliabilty.
When trading in cars at the dealership. Pretty sure that was what we were talking about?
My statement was referring to trading in, not private party sales. Dealerships don't typically care about options. I haven't had a single dealership experience where they said, "We're going to give you more because you had these specific options." It's always been "Well, your mileage is low, so that helps you out."

Also, that options statement was me in my head (for whatever reason) thinking that the E39 M5 had an automatic option. Which it didn't.
The market for E39 M5's is crazy right now. One has 4k miles and is listed for 195k, and another with 50k miles for 75k.

and if you still had that 2001 M5 you could now sell it for 100k+ (if it had the right options and low miles)
What's funny is after driving it from 66k to 95k miles in 6.5 years, I sold it for $5,200 more than I paid.

E39 M5 have always had a huge price range between the 100k+ drivers (under $20k) and low-mileage, sought after color garage queens (6 figures).

Very strong result from Cars and Bids on this 2022. Clearly the people demand the best color, Electric Blue!

I was watching that auction and can't believe it went for that much. Add the $3k buyers fee and you're close to new car range (I just bought a base 6mt with only bronze wheels ($1500) and Coastal Blue ($625), a $67800 vehicle, for $65500) last week.

It's definitely an outlier. I guess it was just 2 people that really wanted that spec.

Yeah if you REALLY want that color, finding one with only 10k miles and pristine condition and this is the best way to go. It's my 2nd favorite color of the Blackwings, behind only Coastal Blue (and my wife's Pilot Trailsport is Sky Diffused Pearl, way too close to Electric Blue to have both in our garage haha).
