1987 325i I did a full restoration on.

I've been driving my 6 speed as a daily for 2 years. 19k miles on it. Includes a 3k mile road trip to LV for the F1 GP. Best daily I've ever had.

Take my kid to school in it. Drive it to the office. Drive it to get groceries. Pick up clients for lunch. Take it to the golf course. Take it out at nights and put the hurting on the hellcats. Take it to the cars and coffee. You name it. I have a dedicated set of winter tires, has done surprisingly well.

Just phenomenal all around.
Who's your team and/or driver in F1?

Daily my 22 5BW 6 speed here on Long Island...it will be 3 years old next week...currently 15,400 miles. It's also my winter driver with the Vredestein square setup. I do swap the BW with my relatively high mileage (73k) 997.2 Turbo S just to change things up...even though it's a PDK it's a different but enjoyable experience on a daily commute. The BW has been in the garage and barely driven since May but yes it makes a great daily...my commute is only 11 miles each way, I do make occasional trips to CT in the BW to visit family. For me the manual enhances the daily driving experience as others here have mentioned. Interesting detail...the rear tires on the 911 TTS and the 5BW are exactly the same size.

How does the 5BW do as a daily driver? Nearly all the 2-3 year old 5BWs have very low miles. This makes me think they aren't as livable as I'm hoping.

Background....

I have a 2023 Volvo V60 Polestar wagon. It's got 455 HP and Ohlin coilovers....all from the factory. It's a very special car that was made in low numbers and I really do love it. However, it is a plug in hybrid with an automatic transmission. I also have a new Bronco 4dr soft top and a manual transmission. Bronco has been fun on the weekends but isn't a good daily. I drive 12-14k miles per year.

I have been salivating over a 5BW. I am considering replacing the Volvo with a 5BW manual trans. I'd drive the 5BW most of the year and save Bronco for winter (might need to get hard top...).

Is this a bad idea?
Not at all. Bought mine as a trip and around town car. Manual transmission and all. Even bought the aftermarket spare tire. Will say though, I made sure I got the base performance seats, as the others are a pain to crawl in and out of the bolsters. Was supposed to replace my 2006 Infinity g35. Then wifey decided to keep that as a backup to her '94 Toyota pickup. Go figure. Just got back from a trip yesterday. Thrilled so far. Great around town and super on the road. City mileage kinda sucks, but hwy is in the 23-25 mpg range.
