It seems there was supposed to be optional magnesium wheels for the Blackwings, but that never came to be. Magnesium wheels would be about 10lbs lighter per wheel. Anybody interested in forged magnesium wheels?

From where? To my knowledge, there is no magnesium option currently unless you had them made custom?I've ordered a custom set of these OEM looking wheels. Aside from being magnesium, they will be:
18 x 10 ET15 - front
18 x 10.5 ET45 - rear
True story.I have a hunch the bronze wheels were originally supposed to be Mg. I think I read on here that supposedly someone picked up a preproduction Mg set off of eBay a while back.
Problem with magnesium is that they're only 2-3lbs lighter than a good forged aluminum wheel, and they're more brittle so its possible to crack them, and they typically cost a good bit more than forged aluminum.
You can get an aftermarket 19" forged aluminum wheel that weighs right at 20lbs, Apex is one example, a similar magnesium wheel is about 17lbs.Forged aluminum is 50% heavier than forged magnesium. Stated the other way, forged magnesium is 33% lighter than forged aluminum.
Our 28lb OEM forged aluminum wheels should save about 9 lbs per wheel when made of magnesium. Combine that with carbon ceramic brakes and we are at 20lbs/wheel weight reduction. That is a significant drop in un-sprung weight/rotational mass. That has got to have a meaningful effect when driving on the track at 10/10, which is my focus.
Yes, the forged magnesium wheels are nearly 3x the cost of forged aluminum.
Raylan Wheels Manufacturing Co. Ltd.Where are you getting OEM replicas made from magnesium?
You are correct in that most of the weight reduction can be accomplished with aluminum. The OEM wheels are rather .... "fat" in that their esthetic design has more mass than is needed for structural integrity. The VS-5RS wheels are "thin" in that they only have as much material as needed to meet the structural requirement. They are very open, showing much more of the rotor and caliper. Your numbers are basically spot on.You can get an aftermarket 19" forged aluminum wheel that weighs right at 20lbs, Apex is one example, a similar magnesium wheel is about 17lbs.

Ralyan = Alibaba, that's why I woudn't consider it.The first set was from a different supplier and they took about 75 days. That was forged aluminum in one of their standard models. I'm planning on 90 days for these. You can get any offset you want. I finalized on 18x11 ET47 for the rear. I had said 18x10 ET15 for the front, but yesterday asked if it was too late to change that to ET17.
If someone else orders a set we'd each get them for $3,800. If a third person orders, we'd each get them for $3,700. If a fourth person orders, we'd each get them for $3,600. That's as low as it gets. You don't need to order the same as these. Order any custom design you want, any width, any offset, any color - completely custom. Or take one of their standard designs for $3,000. I'm surprised people haven't been jumping at this?
If you knew how many name brand wheels or other products are middlemen and you can get direct from Alibaba you'd be shocked.Ralyan = Alibaba, that's why I woudn't consider it.
I dont buy from Alibaba. You can though. All wheels I buy are made in Thailand or the US. No Chinese wheels for me.If you knew how many name brand wheels or other products are middlemen and you can get direct from Alibaba you'd be shocked.
Our factory wheels are made in China. Show us the wheels you have that are made in the US and Thailand.I dont buy from Alibaba. You can though. All wheels I buy are made in Thailand or the US. No Chinese wheels for me.
