GM Extended Warranty

No, "GM" contracts are from the date of service contract signing, not purchase of vehicle date unless something has changed recently.

Correct. I still have 13 months left on my original 4 year warranty and I basically give it away. I only do about 2000-2500 miles per year. So my 7 years will run out before my miles ever get to 56k.
*** I remember my 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme came with 6 years and 60,000 miles. I guess GM has lost faith in their engineering skills.

So I have 29K miles on a 2022 CT5V-BW, 4 months until standard warranty runs out. I just got quoted $6505 for $100 deductible on platinum for additional 5yrs/50K which of course its doubtful ill hit the miles. Silver was $5999. $0 was a couple hundred more. Any thoughts off the cuff on on the price? Seems a bit high, but your miles were way lower than mine. but still seems really high as mine are a lot lower than normal driving.

OK. I pulled the trigger and just went with MacMulkin Chev/Cadillac. I got a quote of $1850 from James Black. I had a quote of $1566 from MacMulkin and THEN they send me an email that it was an old price quote from before the yearly increase. I thought it was some sort of "bait and switch" routine and thats when I talked to James Black Cadillac and he agreed the prices quoted from both dealers was correct. I went with MacMulkin and saved the extra $50 bucks. Here are the extended warranty current prices as provided by MacMulkin.
Thanks for posting these lists. Are these prices retail prices or dealer prices? (I recall that dealer pricing was about half of the retail pricing on Ford warranties). I'm going to be a CT-5V owner soon and am considering getting a GMPP Platinum plan.

I just cold called a bunch of dealers and whoever sent me the lowest quote got my credit card. macMulkin said that they go for the volume , not the high prices that others charge. My local dealer wanted 2 grand more than everyone else. They got greedy and lost a sale.

Does anyone have any experience with Fidelity Warranty Services? The F&I manager at a local GM dealership in my area told me that his dealership does not sell GMPPs, only ones from Fidelity Warranty Services.

They probably get a better kick back from Fidelity. I would ONLY buy from GMPP. That way there can be no nonsense if a claim is made.

I just got a GMPP from James Black Cadillac. Something I was unaware of that took me by surprise. If the vehicle is within 12 months of the expiration of the bumper-to-bumper a GM dealer must do the Vehicle Inspection Checklist. This is essentially the same inspection that is done for a certified pre-owned Cadillac. The inspection was $350, but now my car is covered for another 6.5 years.

I just brought my 2014 Dodge Challenger into the dealer for some work to be done on my power steering. I bought the MOPAR Lifetime Warranty back in 2014 and paid $2500 for it, $100 deductible. I told the dealer to go over the whole car and see if they find anything that is covered under warranty. The are replacing a ton of front end suspension, replacing (alleged) leaking engine gaskets and other smaller things. I am getting a 40k mile HEMI tune-up that I will have to pay for. I am very happy that I bought the warranty. I did buy the GMPP for my Blackwing and got mine thru MacMulkin in NH. My local dealer wanted $2000 more than the $1800 I paid !

My Challenger check up has now gone from almost $4000 to about $7000 in service. I believe this is AFTER my lifetime warranty work is completed. They are now telling me that I need two new valve covers and 4 coil coil packs. I told them to go ahead and replace all 8 coil packs. I was always told never just replace a few coil packs. Issues can and will arise with the older coil packs . Playing it safe is costing me more money. I can't wait to see the paperwork.

I purchased the 84/56 GMPP Platinum extended warranty for my 2022 5BW thru MacMulkin in NH as they were the least expensive. Used them before, same great service and easy to deal with as in the past.

I’m within the last 12 months of my factory warranty and did not have to pay an inspection fee. I only have 1,849 miles, so maybe it’s tied to mileage as part of the criteria, don’t know. Glad to have the GM protection for a while longer for less than $2,000 and a zero deductible. Now the challenge is to find more time to enjoy the car, lol!

The warranty purchase price is definitely tied to mileage and number of months before factory warranty expiration.

I was also told that GM is pushing for not allowing purchase of GMPP within 12 months of factory warranty expiration. This is perhaps the most useful piece of info.

Yes, I knew about the purchase price tied to mileage and remaining months of factory warranty from the past purchases. For reference; I had about 8 months left, so maybe GM hasn’t started not allowing within the last 12 months yet and people need to take advantage, thanks for sharing.

You mentioned about an extra inspection fee and was ready, however, I was not asked to do the same and wondered if it tied back to the low mileage I have. You didn’t mention your current mileage for me to compare, so I posted my mileage as a reference point.

One owner 2022 5BW with 8700 miles and ~5 months left on the factory warranty.

GM hasn’t started the 12 month restriction as of 2 weeks ago. But, they are talking about it to the point that some dealers know about it. Doesn’t mean they will do it, but if/when they do, I don’t think they’re gonna make a big public announcement.

I brought my 2014 Challenger RT Plus, back to the dealership because they did not replace all 8 coil packs as was discussed. They only did 4 of them. They charge $180 for EACH coil pack and then have to pay installation labor on top of that. It will cost me about another $1200 on top of the $6800 I already paid. I also found the coil packs on a MOPAR parts website for $80 each. This is most likely the LAST time I will ever go to a Dodge dealership for any type of service , other than using my Life Time Warranty contract for service. That's almost $1500 for 8 coil packs that I saw after market ones going for $200 for all 8. I haven't really crunched all the numbers yet on all the other work that they did and most likely overcharged me for parts. I suspect they got me for anywhere from $2500 - $3000 too much. That's all on me. Never again. These numbers are not including the rack and pinion and intake manifold gasket that they replaced under warranty.

My car will be 3 years old this June and it has 5800 miles on her. Probably will never do more than 3000 in any given year, at most. Does anyone have an idea what a dealership will charge for an extended warranty , since I will more than likely keep this car for a long time. I saw a chart somewhere but can't find it , showing what different year and mileages are offered.
I had 2k miles on my 3ish yr old. If it's still under warranty I think my Cadillac plan was like $3k for 8 years of coverage. After a recent transmission repair - it's expensive but insurance against a bad thing happening.
