Driver engagement? Selling/buying...

I'm leaning towards keeping the BW along with getting the audi...

Now you're talkin'.........ADDing instead of replacing is the way to go. Or if you're replacing, get the boring DD and something really wild as a hobby. I predict this is where you land..........

The new job sounds very interesting. Good luck !!

my 5BW and C6 ZR1 are my perma-cars, not selling them hopefully ever. Peak cars (for me).

Everything else is interchangeable. That said, I'm 48 now and realized driving boring cars is not something I want to be thinking about laying on my death bed. Only truly boring car I had was a perfectly fine, perfectly nice, zero trouble ever '23 Silverado LTZ (with all the options, $68k sticker) 3.0 diesel. So smooth, quiet, comfy, but.......boring. :D

Traded that perfect truck on a ridiculous, gas guzzling, obnoxious '25 Raptor R about 4 weeks ago. But, guess what? It's not boring. :D :D

Anyway, be careful with being too practical as you get older. Life is short. If you want the A6 daily "beater", get it, but don't subject yourself to not having something fun and something worth driving. What's the point of this retirement job if you don't get to continue to enjoy the fruits of your labor in some fashion?

If life was all about practical, we'd all be driving Honda Accords and Camrys or some other vanilla, efficient SUV.

Back in the day I used to tell friends of mine who bought a Prius..."perfectly good car for someone who might otherwise buy a Camry" ...now - for folks considering a Tesla or such I say "perfectly fine choice for someone who might otherwise be driving a Prius"

Now Prius's and Teslas are fine cars...for certain reasons and certain folks...but I for one wouldn't be satisfied driving either and I think many here would feel the same.

Right now I have a 2020 RC350 and a 2024 911T.
The RC is my daily beater. It's quiet, smooth, has a little punch to get you on the highway quick enough and the Mark Levinson is phenomenal. BUT it's boring as fuck. I mean it does what it's meant to do (for my requirement) and it does it well enough. I bought it in October with 32k miles and I'll hit 50k either tomorrow or wed. It's been great. Zero issues. Just BORING.

I took out the 911 this weekend and went up in to the mountains for some amazing driving roads. Every time I take it up to the mountains I'm reminded of how capable the car is. It's meant to be on those roads every day. I just feel like it loses a bit when you drive it "normally". It's just not meant to be sitting in SOCAL traffic for extended periods of time.

My house finally sold so I'm moving to SC by the end of July. Pretty sure when I finally get settled in, I'll be looking at getting something that's exciting to drive when not at 8/10's

911T is turbo or Carrera T? I presume turbo, but figured I would ask to be sure.

I posted on another thread on a Honda S2000 board I've been on forever that my two most 'enjoyable anytime' cars I've had the past many purchases was a 2024 Corolla GR and a 2022 Subaru BRZ. Both were a riot no matter the speed or venue you were driving them. Just super fun and enjoyable cars at anything above 3/10ths with easily exploitable limits around town.

Having super high limit cars around town gets boring very quickly. What I like about the 5BW is you can still have some slideways fun and feel the car alive beneath you at less than jail speeds. It communicates at lower thresholds unlike some other cars. My 992 GTS was an extremely capable and nice car, but it was legit boring if you weren't flogging it and running it at extra-legal (go to jail) speeds. I'm sure same for your T.

No he meant a 911 T. That’s the lightweight and less power engine model. In fact for 2025 it’s the only 911 you can get a manual tranny. A 911 TT is the big boy twin turbo with 3.8 liters. The T is only a 3.0 liter engine with smallish turbos. But you can bolt up bigger turbos and tune for a seriously fast car. The TT and TTS are damm fast. If I were to get another 911 that’s what I’d get. Used of course a a new one is north of 350k.

Good! That's actually the answer I was hoping for. You don't see many Carrera Ts around. I had my hopes up for a 992.1 GT3 allocation at the dealer where I bought my GT4, but I was not high enough on the list for that generation, so my "spot" (hopefully) rolled over to the 992.2 gen. Which is now crazy expensive. And IMHO less attractive than the prior gen.

TL DR I have been considering the T as a "poor man's GT3" but even the T is now quite expensive...

Curious to hear thoughts on the Carrera T. Whether it is worth the price of entry, or a prior-gen GT3 is a better bet.

Yes, the TTs are insane cars, but I think again the usable performance debate reappears in that context.

I doubt you can find a new T on the lot, but used ones are for sale. In general I think that all Porsches are great but new ones are overpriced. I’ve had 4 of them, all bought CPO. Given the pricey maintenance as well. So I’m looking at a C8 Z06 now. Great deals on them and I found a new one with the Z07 package damm near 20k off sticker. My Porsche itch has been scratched. Granted I’ll have to get New Balance shoes and Jean shorts with white polo shirt if I get the C8. White socks with red bands on top. And a blond sun baked GF.

Is the blonde sun-baked GF an option on the C8, and if so, how much does it cost?

I posted a little bit about it in another thread but he's some takeaways.

The power is definitely more usable on normal roads and you are able to use all of it before you're going to jail.
Typical Porsche fashion the car handles like it's on rails. I'm still trying to find the limit, but it's well beyond what I feel comfortable attempting on mountain roads.
The 7MT is good (when it's good), notchy but it's not on the same level as the 6MT. I have to mentally think and adjust how much pressure to use in order to get to 4th, 5th and 6th gears. Plenty of times I've needed to downshift to 6th and it'll snap to 4th or I'll hit the gate between 4th and 6th because I didn't put pressure towards 6th. I now find myself skipping 7th gear most times because of this (unless I'm above 75mph). It's almost impossible to go from 7th to 5th because of the spring pressure. Every time I try I end up hitting 3rd. So it's come down to if I need to drop gears for whatever reason, I just rapid fire 7 > 6 > 5 > 4. It's gotten quite tedious.
The ride is on the firm side of things. It's not terrible but it's not great depending on the road surface. Also, it's loud as hell inside, not from engine noise but road noise.
There are a surprising amount of rattles in the car. You would think for what you pay, it would be solid but yeah no. My 2012 Camaro SS had less rattles at 19k miles before I traded it in because I couldn't deal with them. I've narrowed it down to somewhere in the door panels and I think the extended range fuel tank when it's full. Which I understand has a recall for.
The brakes are solid, they have tons of power to stop the car but you will start to notice you need a little extra pedal pressure once you give them a good workout on the mountain roads.

The 911T is definitely a capable car. BUT I think it's a capable car for those that can afford to just "deal" with it's faults. I am not one of those people. The dealership has had possession of my car for more than half of my ownership because of random things. For instance the dealership had my car for over a week because apparently a pebble lodged itself in one of the front radiator fans inside the wheel well and it was causing the fan to make a grinding noise every time it tried to activate for cooling.
Spending what I did on the car and it having more dealership ventures, and rattles than I care to endure is why it's going up for sale. Someone else can deal with all of that. At least it's CPO'd out to 2030 so any more issues that pop up will be covered for a long time.

How tall is your garage? If you can go with a four post lift, you can park the Audi under the BW. Comes in handy for oil changes and such too.

Yeah, the garage is tall enough, I believe (14 ft.?) but it's going to be a real challenge parking a car in-between those posts. And then getting the car out. We have a side-load garage, so it requires a sharp turn (or turns) to get cars in and out. The wife has hit the house twice. I now have to put her car in the garage for her.

It's free, just drive a Vette and they are attracted to one.

I've had 5 Corvettes. Women are not attracted to them, but men are. If that's your boat, then you'll do well.

If you want wimmen, get something cute like a Miata.

Always the girls...........I have a similar parking situation, and all 3 of my girls (daughters + wife) hit it at least once. :)

Right? And I'll never forget the first time, she was crying, "oh, my poor car!" And all I could think to say was, "oh, my poor house!".

The second time was no more than a week or two after we bought her Porsche Macan S. I said something incredibly sensitive like "do you not use the fucking mirrors?". Now that I think about it, I think she hit the house twice with the Porsche, once with the BMW. :hb

The garage is full of motorcycles and a 5, so no house smashing, I mean garage parking for my wife or daughters. Now if I can just figure out how to do away with the curbs they love to rash the rims on. Actually my youngest daughter parallel parks like a boss, and is darn good on a motorcycle...I think that makes her my favorite. 🤫

Hmmm. Had not thought of that, the LC is gorgeous albeit expensive, and I didn't know that they still made the IS500, which is in the good price ballpark, but I'm worried may be as dull to drive as the IS350 is, and there are none anywhere near me to try.

I think I mentioned above, I can get a huge discount on the new A6, which is one of the appealing things about it. No discount for me on the Lexus.
I don't really have an opinion on the trade (but I do get the 15 month issue!). Think hard about the BRZ/86 for occasional track or other fun days. I love mine! Also, there's a reason for the HUGE discount on the A6...
