Got pulled over in Massachusetts earlier Tuesday night on I90 this week. Cop gave me a speeding ticket clocking 90mph.
My Uniden R7 didn't even beeped.
For the record, my R7 has been doing alright in NJ, 9 out 10 times it will shout out Ka band when there is a cop nearby with radar on.
A few questions for fellows here.
1. Does Massachusetts state police has equipped RDD and blocked my Uniden R7?
2. Which one should I go for that will work in this case? The good old Valentine R1? Escort Radar Redline 360c or something else?

Thank everyone in advance.

Does MA require the cop's equipment to be listed on the ticket? R7 is not a bad device at all but get the International firmware for it which is excellent.

The cop might have been running Laser in which case a radar detector isn't of much use.

IMHO, sometimes local/county police lie. They target out of state tags (don't want to anger the local voters). No detection avoidance system will help you in that situation.

Example: I got a super speeder ticket in GA (86 mph) on I95. I was in the middle lane with about 10 cars, all speeding around 85-90mph. No radar/laser went off (Escort Redline 360). For the county sheriff, it was like shooting fish in a barrel. She turned on her lights, picked her way through the cars until she came to an out of state license plate (me), and pulled me over. The ticket claimed radar was the detection means.

Was I speeding? Yes. Did the officer lie about using radar? I'm 99% sure she did. Was I respectful and take the ticket? Yes. Did I pay the ticket? Kind of. I got an out of state lawyer (former prosecutor) to drop the ticket, pay court fees and put me on 1 year supervision. Total cost was $200 more than the ticket, but no points and no insurance reporting.

Speeding tax.

If you haven't already, use the Vortex setup options for your R7. There's a ton of menus and he provides a complete guide and setup file:

Also make sure you're running the latest firmware:

I don't like Uniden's, they do work well but they give WAY too many false alarms, I returned an R7 and R8 because of this. I have been using Escort Max 360c for 6 years now, I have one of these in all 4 vehicles we own. 2 Max 360c's and 2 Max 360c Mk II's. Never had a ticket using Escort and WAY less false alarms.

My V1 Gen2 has not failed me except in Instant On situations. It's even given me a Laser alert from 3/4 mile away once.

FYI, if the (MA) trooper checked off "clocked" on the ticket, that means he didn't use RADaR (or LIDaR), he clocked you by matching speed.

FYI: GA dont seem to report tickets to FL even tho theyre next to each other.

Depends on which states have reciprocity. IIRC, CT has reciprocity with NY but NY does not with NJ and PA does with NJ but not NY. That was decades ago & things might have changed since.

I have only owned Uniden products, so can't comment on other brands but my current R8 works well here in Oklahoma. Like others suggested, I used the settings recommend by Vortex Radar. I have had one issue since trading in my C8 for a BW. The Adaptive Cruise system on the BW false alerts KA band 35.100. I can not segment this band because it is often used by OHP, but with the current firmware update, the R8 mutes the band at low detection (typically 1 bar) and with a stronger signal (more than 1 bar) , I will get a notification.

I have the R4 (same as R8 just front only) and have the issue with my wife's Pathfinder adaptive cruise. What I did was set the sensitivity to 90% on KA. It doesn't change it enough to matter on the open road, but I don't get the falsing.

I'll give that a try too, Thanks!

Or they may employ air assets like they do down in south florida along 95 and 20. They clock your time from one point to another.

I use a uniden R8 , along with the R8 companion on my iphone, and they both work great together, and the R8 companion allows me to fine tune the settings on the R8 for less BS signals.
I also download the quarterly updates from uniden to my computer for my R8, and update the detectors waypoints, speed camera locations, ect.
It has been well spent money...., and saved me money several times.

I just ordered a R4w and a R7 with them being on sale this weekend. Unsure which one to run in the BW. It doesn't get driven too much. We are using the AT4 more as a daily and highway driving due to my son's racing schedule.

Opinions on which one over the other?

Check out the reviews on Vortex Radar. He does incredibly thorough reviews and they're generally available in text or video form. Once you decide, use the configuration he posts as well and be sure to do the quarterly firmware updates.

I use Escort brand 360c MKll and they have saved me way too many times. However, the R7 is a powerhouse, especially with the international upgrade. I’ve been considering the R8W lately as I bought another car and need another detector. Good luck either way.

I was a cop for 28 years. The LASER/RADAR school was taught by very experienced Highway Patrol cops. The class was three 8 hours days long. (I could teach you how to use LIDAR in 2 minutes.) The final day was going out and the instructor was using LASER to see what vehicle speeds were, coming and going. I had to visually watch a vehicle and tell the instructor how fast , to within 3 mph shown on the LIDAR gun. I had to do this 50 times in a row, no errors, and then I would get certified. Cops can use RADAR (very seldom used), LIDAR (mostly used) and or visual estimation of speed. You cannot beat the LIDAR gun. Period. The gun does a self test every time you turn it on and if it detects an issue, it will not work. The gun shoots a laser beam of light at 186,000 miles PER SECOND ! It reads your speed in less than 1/3rd of a second. The beam is the size of a pencil. You are toast, even with your detectors. I NEVER lost a court case that I used the LIDAR gun. The best thing I have found, currently, is using the WAZE APP and relying on others up ahead of you to report a cop on the side of the road. Also, LIDAR/RADAR works even if the patrol car is moving. I have used it to read a car from over a quarter mile away, long before they even see me. My personal opinion is that these new detectors are a waste of money....unless you live in a rural area where they still use RADAR. RADAR likes to find the largest moving object.
