I would like to install a radar detector, but I'm unfamiliar with the best option. I would like to custom install something that is permanent and integral to the dash or console.

What have you guys done?

If I was going with a custom install I would look closely at the Escort Redline Ci 360c. Something like that is around $3K. If you’re going that far you might as well have a laser jammer installed as well. Do some research on Vortex radar website.

The route I went, was to spend the money on a Stinger laser jammer, $3.5K installed and use a windshield mounted Uniden R7 (R8 is the new model). The problem with installed radar detectors is there’s very little room in the front grill area to install anything at all. And I like to upgrade my radar detector every five years or so.

Just installed my uniden R7 with blendmount and mirror tap

Works great

Vortex Radar is definitely one of your best resources for deciding.

Thanks guys…..but I am looking for advice on custom installations.
As others stated, pour over the Vortex Radar website to start with to narrow down your options. Second, you need to locate an installer. I a good installer will have 3D scanners, 3D printers, and CAD systems to integrate everything. The success of a custom install is highly dependent on the installer (buy the installer, not the radar).

Depending on where you live, you may have to drive some distance to find a competent shop. I can recommend an excellent shop in Phoenix that works on Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and other high-end cars.

I personally don’t think a custom install gains much in performance. The main difference is a very clean OEM look. So if you have money to burn, by all means go for it. I’ve already stated my opinion that a custom install laser jammer is far more valuable than a custom install radar.

If you're going to spend big money, seems like @rubberduck is on the right track. Do want really expensive early advice that you're about to get a ticket or do you want to try to mitigate the opportunity to tag you altogether?

I own a V1G1, V1G2 and a Redline360c and the escort is by far my favorite. Don’t think you can go wrong with any of them though

I have a V1 and an Escort Redline. This time around I went with the Uniden R8 following Vortex Radars reviews. Don't have much seat time with the unit
