The V6 not passing emissions is something they knew was going to happen eventually, they said that from the beginning of the Emira. The Toyota V6 Lotus has been using for years is an old engine design. This is why the AMG i4 version was also planned at the launch of the Emira, because it would pass emissions.I don't know....sounds like a recipe for a quick, copramised, half ass factory retrofit job. Maybe some oems can do it. I doubt Lotus can do it properly.
I have no idea if the V8 rumors are true, but Lotus did admit they were testing a V8 in a recent investor call. However, that doesn't mean its a V8 for the Emira, they could just be using the Emira as a mule for a higher tier model they are developing.
That being said, the Emira was purposely made wider than the Evora in the rear when there seemed to be no reason to do so. Some speculate this could have been the plan all along.
An Emira V8 would bring my interest back. That chassis is one of the best ever, I just feel the car needed a bit more juice. That being said, I agree, I would like to see what issues that may arise. Buying early versions of a new Lotus models/versions can be dicey.
