So, this happened. PDR is set to auto record. Took the car in for replacing two interior parts. The car was driven a little over two miles on the odo in the first couple days, then parked and waiting for the parts.

When I picked up the car, I drove home and decided to see what the two mile test drive was all about, and found the last 2 videos were of the tech parking the car after I dropped it off, then me picking the car up and driving home. so all auto-recorded videos in between had been deleted. FFFUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKKKK

I have an email documenting these things to the dealer.

I tried to call Onstar to see if I could get the old "SMART DRIVER" data, but I ended up giving the lady a lesson on why they have no idea what I'm talking about as they have seriously done work to BURY that functionality. See data sharing threads. I wish I had that available, I would have been able to show the EXACT route on that drive, and it would have shown how many Hard stops, hard accel, any over 80mph. SIGH, but all you ass holes didn't want your info shared, so we lose access to cool things. No more driver score comparison - see other thread.

You might be able to recover the file. I’m not sure if the delete command from the display screen actually deletes the file or just the header of the file. Pop the SD card into your computer and find out.

The porter at your local stealership took your car for a quick joyride to lunch but we're the asshole? Instead of blaming someone irrelevant I'd be hooking up my car to a PC and find the deleted folder to recover. I'm sure your car will be fine regardless of what you find. Still got a warranty right?

Yeah, it's not even the two mile joyride that likely didn't hurt anything (these cars can take some serious abuse), it's the deception of deleting the video that would piss me off more than anything.

I’ve gotten in the habit of taking my car in with low fuel when I have to and have a hidden AirTag as well. It sounds ridiculous but as a former valet, I understand temptation 🤣

Yeah it's probably there.

Definitely remove the card and don't write anything else to it. I've never used it but apparently Microsoft has a tool that will do it (though command line only). There's other stuff available out there that may be easier to use.

I'm new to the internets, but I think the asshole comment was supposed to be funny as it references that old thread about driver "scores". Some of you assholes are completely uninsurable based on those numbers!

I see you're in CA, by any chance does this dealer rhyme with Sham Shose, WholeNut Croak, or Coolma by any chance?

Obviously it was a Spaceballs reference -

I dunno... This clip could describe many of us well too!

Such great movies....Spaceballs and Airplane. I love that line in Spaceballs

Y'all made me laugh with tears in my eyes...but the tears might be allergies.

Update:
I can scan the card and see that the video files are there, but haven't been able to recover the videos to view them. :/
Dealer hasn't responded yet.

I don’t see what all the fuss is about, does your car have some damage? The service tech was probably just having sex and doing blow in your car and that wouldn’t be picked up on the PDR anyway.
There would at least be a soundtrack if the audio was enabled. :D

so, for the rest of us in the Bay Area, can you let us know which dealer this is? I would guess Steven's Creek based on proximity ...

I'm curious to know too, just because I'm still trying to find a dealer that's trustworthy. On my last visit to my local dealer (in the town where it's good to be alive) I was told my 21K mile 5BW was 'in the red' for a transmission AND differential fluid change (when dropping off the car, prior to inspection), I never received an inspection report after the service, but got charged a variety of miscellaneous little fees such as for disposing of eight tires, lol. I am impressed, however, they didn't bring out a filthy engine air filter from an escalade and tell me that it needed to be changed.

Dealer flies this badge. DM me if need to know more.
