New blackwing owner, didn’t get the PDR. Looking at buying a Viofo a229 2channel dash cam. Have never had a dash cam before and am not particularly handy, is this likely something I can hardwire/install on my own or am I better off taking it somewhere? Would mostly be worried about fucking up the interior trying to open panels/hide the wiring. Thanks for any insight.

You could use a plug’n’play harness to provide power. Something like this:

I assume the camera has a USB-C port for power. The version above has just bare wire, so you would need to graft on a USB-C port. You could reach out to the company and see if they will make a harness with a USB-C end. Since most radar detectors and other 12V car electronics are moving toward that as a standard power outlet, it would make sense for them to start offering it.

I've installed or had installed at least six dashcams. Look at amazon and find the harness for the Viofo. Should be 20-25 dollars. Use that and run the wire from the cockpit fuse box. If you want parking protection you'l need to connect to two power sources, one that is on only when the car is running and other (usually a yellow wire that is hot all the time). The biggest pain is getting the wire for the second camera to the rear window. I bought a new CT4 V and because it was too cold for me to do it I brought it to a shop and 1.5 hours later everything was done. Worth every penny. You should also try your local Best Buy. These little devices are great! I used it to show the service advisor how the adaptive cruise had a problem and and show my wife why she had a flat tire. Good project!
