Anti-Theft - IGLA?

Hi Everyone - Been lurking here for the past few weeks and excited to add my 5v BW to the garage this winter. Had a V3 CTSV for 3 years and had to get another (albeit, improved version).

What are you all doing for anti-theft? I live in a nice area about 20 min south of NYC but cars are stolen here like crazy due to quick access to highways.

Searched and didn't see much other than posts of attempted theft...

Anyone have experience with IGLA's on these BW's?

Thanks,

Rob

There is a thread specifically concerning this - something like theft attempt in Texas or some such. I;m just too mush of an old fart to know how to link it for you but I expect someone else here will manage. If your BW is MT you at least have one level of protection from theft.

Hi Rob,

Like RoadHawk stated, there is another thread around with many opinions.

I had an IGLA and other devices installed in my 5BW. I already had an IGLA previously installed in another vehicle that is stolen frequently and with no complaints. The IGLA is more expensive than many of the other products listed on the other thread, but I don’t mind paying to protect my cars. Cheaper than the hassle of dealing with a stolen vehicle, been there, done that in the past.
I use “layers” of security, not just one device to have the best defense possible. Of course, the ole if they really want it, they will find a way will be mentioned… I’m improving my chances with layers.

Many people believe that simply have a manual transmission deters most, but, in my area there are craps loads of 5.0 MT Mustangs driven by young people that know how to shift, for example.

Good luck in whatever you choose.

Greetings from a former New Yorker! (Grew up in Rockland County & then lived on the Upper East Side across from Gracie Mansion.)

I have the Soler Bluetooth Throttle Controller for my 5BW & C8 HTC Stingray Z06. Besides having multiple maps for throttle control, it allows for turning off the throttle completely. You can start the car & it will only idle. Someone asked me about the install which is a reverse of removing it to defeat it. I forgot to include that you have to have the door open for >20-minutes (to let the system completely shutdown) or disconnect the battery to install/remove. Otherwise, the ECU disables the vehicle completely.

I too, believe in multiple layers of protection. Besides the Soler, I have my S&W or Sig Sauer 9mm's.

Strongly recommend the IGLA for interlock function. I was the first install on a 2024 5V BW and it took a little longer to install as they figured it out, but now all the installers have the info to complete installation.

Recommend the Compustar Drone as well if you want phone notifications of alarms and cause of trigger along with GPS tracking for peace of mind.

Installed after my 2016 V3 was stolen out of the 4th floor of a parking garage.

I've been investigating options and IGLA popped to the top of my list. I'm curious if you can deactivate the magic button press to start and reactivate it for specific moments?

Use the IGLA 231. You can still start / remote start the vehicle. However, if you don't press the buttons on the steering wheel in the sequence you choose (a PIN), the engine will cut-off when trying to shift out of park.

Note, don't activate the smartphone or IGLA FOBs, that just opens the system up to another method of compromise. Only someone that knows the PIN code will be able to shift out of park. You can change the code after getting the vehicle serviced as well if that's a concern (Or disable the IGLA while in service, but that definitely opens you up to theft).

That's my question, do you have to use the wheel button press unlock everytime or can you activate it for specific times? My reasoning is most of the time I am either parked in my garage or my controlled access work lot so I wouldn't want that extra layer full time.

Yes, you can de-activate the system. It takes a series of entering your pin and turning ignition on and off (I don't remember the exact sequence, but they give you the training and a cheat sheet for the steps). If I remember right, it'd take about 1 minute to activate or de-activate the system.

How does the IGLA work with a manual 5BW?

The videos I’ve seen for IGLA show the engine starting but just prevent switching into gear with an auto. Not sure how it behaves with a manual transmission.

I just had mine installed on a manual. You get in the car, hold down the start button for ~5 seconds. That wakes up the car/IGLA. You then tap in your code and listen for the the confirming beeps. Press clutch and brake, hit start, hear the sweet sound of your LT4, and you're good to go. It's about a 10-second process in total.

If you just get in the car and push clutch/start, the car starts but IGLA kills it about three seconds later.

Cool, so it does work with a manual. How many button presses can you make the code?

And if you stall the car, do you have to re-enter the code or it’s only if the car was turned off first? Sounds like it would be stressful if you stalled it and needed to get it restarted in the middle of an intersection having to fiddle with the code.

I think you can make the code anywhere between 3 and 20 button presses.

As for stalling, I don't know. I'll have to try it and find out. But between the BW's torque, its throttle shall we say "assistance" and being an Excellent, Excellent Driver - I've never stalled mine.
